Smallest diesel engine in the world

I just heard on the AM news that some parts of Mass. and Ct. got three feet of snow dropped on them. Here in NYC, we are not doing too bad- less than a foot- but enough to cause panic.

I hope members in the N. E. are OK, and are safe.

They will have to shovel an area for their dogs to squat or theyre going to clog the tail pipe :D

At least the temps are supposed to warm back up in the next week, it shouldnt stay too long.

I am just getting the courage to go out and fire up the snowblower. We got a good 2 feet plus mega drifts. City plow has not been down the road yet.
Ok, one more cup of coffee before I go out.

Well, I was just getting use to the global warming theory and then this just shot it all to he##. LOLOL

We had the storm pass through the Chicago area last Thursday north of the Cook county boarder in IL. they received between 3 and 8 inches of snow. Boy did the media make a big deal out of this but south of interstate 88 we received rain. Go Figure; I have not needed the snow blower at all this winter can't even use the sleds for the grandkids here.

I'd be very happy to trade the folks in New England our prolonged drought for their 2 - 3 feet of snow.

Harvey...come on up and take a truck load home. LOL We got plenty.
We measured a solid 30 inches of snow and one drift 4 1/2 feet. Once I warm up a bit I need to walk around the house to shovel the deck... can't open the back door!

Umderstand your going to have HIGH Tides this AM to. Good luck.

Yes, I have some low roads off tidal creeks here and they were flooded. I haven't heard from the beaches. No news is good news. We never got the high winds that were predicted. That is a good thing. My new Davis weather station was indicating light NE-ENE winds. It would have been bad.

MWilson must have lose power other wise he'd be here on this one.

Yes I did as a matter of fact..... :D Just got it back.

Touched the GenSet off, switched the house over and went back to watching a DVD with the Grandkids. A little while later I went to get the littlest one a drink of water and noticed that the water in the fridge door was out. Got to checking and one whole leg of the breaker panel was dead. Must have lost an armature or something. I believe the genny is 10 years old and has quite a few hours of whole house load on it.

Off to the city tomorrow to get a new one. I want electric start this time as it is getting harder for the wife to crank it if I am not home to do so. It stays in my heated garage but she just can't snap the rope like she used to.

We lose the power fairly often as we are on a lake road with many old Hemlock and softwoods so any amount of wind will drive a branch between the lines and pop the big fuses on the power lines. No one up here is on life support or anything and with only four families up here year around we are a low priority on the list.

We usually bring the grandkids up if there is a storm coming so they are safe and warm. My kids can deal with whatever is happening at their own homes and not have to worry with the little kids tucked away up here. A genset is very important to us and is a mandatory piece of equipment.

We have a lot of snow but it is hard to tell how much as it is drifting so bad. My son-in-laws ice shack fliipped on it's back about an hour ago, a big gust of wind must have come up the lake... ... . Have to put that back on it's feet tomorrow.

Mike, have you given any thought about the new APU's for the home? They look like central A/C units. Permanent mounting outside.

I haven't figured out what is the big deal. When I was stationed at Loring AFB all of this was a normal winter. In fact it was always way worse. I still remember walking out the door one morning to only see the ball of the antenna on my 69 satellite above the snow line. The engine compartment was completely packed with snow which explained the engine running very rich with no air getting to the carburetor. When I finally shoveled out the driveway to the street I needed a ladder as the plow did not make the run and with approx. 6' of snow on the road I think it would have had a rough time anyway. I didn't go to work that day :)

The difference is up in the County they have room to put it. Many of my piles are 8ft high as there is limited room for storage. There is nothing like back dragging 2 1/2 feet of snow away from the garage doors because the driveway dead ends there. On the bright side, I plowed with a 9. 2 ft Boss VXT for 17. 5hrs on approx 23 gals. of fuel. I think that's pretty efficient. . All of my customers were opened up before the State roads were passable. One of my customers was so happy to see me he posted this picture on Facebook.

Check into Onan residential generators. They have Cummins motors in them and are extremely reliable. I've come across a lot of them lately, and talking to the home owners, they've all been very pleased with them. Probably pretty pricey tho!

Jim,

Probably wouldn't go over so well if I bought a generator so big that I had to borrow a semi from work to get it home with... ... ... . :-laf

I could, however sell the excess power to the neighbors... .....

Tramp,

We depend on the genset, but it doesn't have to be very big. The one that I just killed off is ten years old and only 4000 watts. We don't need a lot of power as we have wood and propane heat in addition to the hot water baseboard. Have a propane range but it does need power to work.

The main things are furnace and water pump for showers, and the coffee maker. The rest is just frills... .

I believe we paid $600. 00 for this one and has only needed oil changes and a fuel pump replacement.

My must haves for the next one are a pressurized lube system with a filter so I don't have to change the oil every 8 - 10 hours and electric start.
