Just found out today that my block is cracked so I guess it is time to replace. My motor has 142,000 miles on it so I guess that means I have to pay for it all. Just wanted to know how much i'm looking at to get it replaced.

Sorry to hear that Evan! man after 146K you'd think it would go forever... . look at my latest postings of my engine redoo... called truck is done so long 53 block!... . pics of a souvenier pice I cut out and shows the cross-section of the thin area... .

Take from my recent experience..... mine was just done... .

To pull the motor, have either a new block built or buy a short block with pistons and all and swap parts and maybe replace a water pump or clutch (if manual) and stuff... . Mine came to $6900... . I had to replace clutch with a nice ferous and friction unit... .

but if you shop around, you might get away with like $5000. to $6000

A new complete engine is worth 10,000 and a long block is about $7000... .

Also you might be out of your truck for about a month so get alternative temp. transportation.

Lock-n-stitch is good and I saw that it works... . But...

I did it, and I did it from on the ground underneath... I had it leak through the pins... . I saw a piece I cut out of my old block and I didn't do very well overlapping so I have seen it works if done right... however...

Cliffman did his LS repair and it held... til he towed his trailer up a hill and it developed a new crack 3" from the old one... . so if you want power and towing, best to get a new block.

I have seen the Lock-N-Stitch and it is a good product. You can do the same thing with brass bolts for a lot less money. I was taught how to repair cracks with brass bolts 25 years ago!

Still, the 53 block is weak. There IS a chance that it will crack again in another place! The best repair is to replace the block. No argument! But, what do you do with the truck and how deep is your wallet?
