Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Block Heater--does my truck have one?

Sorry, I'm a newbie, but do ALL CTDs have one? I have a 2001 3500 6 sp 4x2 (I would go look for the plug, but the truck is in the shop, 2 hours away)

I believe that all the CTD's have a block heater

According to my memory (and more importantly, double checked against my original window sticker!) the block heater was part of the Cummins engine package. This included 136 amp alternator and some other stuff too. Look on the right side of the radiator support where the plug should be located.



On the 2003 and later, it is offered as an option. The heating element is always there, but the cord is optional (might be able to buy it after the fact from Cummins or elsewhere. )

When you get your truck back, as DTW pointed out, look for your plug between the passenger headlight and the radiator.

Something to think about just in case..... if you don't see the plug hanging behind the grill, next to the passenger headlight, then check down inside the bumper. On my '01 I plugged it in every night during cold season, then one night I get home and pop the hood and my block heater cord is gone. I'm like WTF cause I had just used it the night before. What happened is the little plastic ring that holds the plug up had broke, and the plug was sitting down on the inside of the bumper.
