Service department at my 5 Star Dealer is tap dancing to my questions about the power cord for the Block Heater on my 2004 truck.

Service manager's answer to my question about where and when was I going to get one was "I wish I knew".

I don't need the block heater very often in NW Arkansas, but I do make trips to South Dakota, Iowa, Northern Missouri, etc. where I think the block heater may be beneficial.

Am I being unreasonable in demanding the power cord? Whose butt needs whipped with it once I get it?

Interesting. I had to look for my cord after reading this thread. I've got the cord. ( I doubt I'll need it too often though, here in California... ) I thought that all CTD's came standard with the block heater, but silly that there would be no cord. . Is the lack of cord just a new thing for the '04s?

D/C is not including the cord on the '04's in the US. I think they are still on the Canadian trucks. To be honest, if a poll of the folks that have the heaters, I'd be surprised if 10% ever used them and of the 10% many of them didn't actually need them. Nice to have, though;) .

Dean

Dean is correct about Canadian trucks still having the cord from the factory. Additionally, I think a few extreme northern U. S. states still get them standard. Unfortunately I don't have the part # handy nor can I give you a price quote (dealer was gracious enough to just give me the cord) but the install is a piece of cake.

However, I do recommend getting the cord from the dealer as opposed to a "generic" cord. The reason is because the factory cord come's with the 3 clips already attached that are used to secure the cord to the frame

Rosco,

There was a threaded collar to secure the cord on the D/C part as well.

Block Heater Cord

I checked with the local Cummins dealer, and their pice for the cord was $21 +/-. Parts guy said it was the same one they used on the big trucks. Didn't notice if any clips or the collar were included.

... it's not like we never go anywhere north of the Mason-Dixon line with our trucks during the winter!

I heard the 2005's were not going to have windshield wiper blades unless you happen to buy the truck on a day that it is raining. Otherwise, why would you need them!

I would like to have had my truck a little warmer in the cab the last two mornings 16 degrees here yesterday. 26 this morning. I can afford the electricity. Makes it a little easier on the engine too!

Write DC @ http://www.dodge.com/webselfservice...stomer&country=us&emailUrl=goToEmailForm('R') and tell them what you think.

Again, Dean is correct. The Factory cord has the threaded collar that screws onto the heater element.

Now Dean, Stop showing off your block heater knowledge. Just because I let you watch me install my cord doesn't mean you can steal all the glory. Remember, I was the one down in the trenches doing all the work. Just kidding :D :D.

My service manager said he would personally install mine free of charge! He ordered enough to cover all the trucks they have ordered without them.

Dean, I saw one of your earlier posts with the Husky aluminum louvered tailgate. Based on your info I bought one. Well pleased. Thanks.

As far as block heaters, my dealer showed me a memo from Daimler to dealers stating that the block heater cord was an OPTION and dealers were not obligated to furnish them to purchasers even though all Cummins engines come with the block heater installed. If you buy a truck with the option installed it is noted on the window sticker for $10. 00. I ordered one from my dealer last week for $26. 00. Apparently not on backorder because I got it in 3 days.
