A friend of mine told me that when I plug in the block heater at night, plug it into a timer that is set to come on just a couple of hours before you leave in the morning, this way it is not using electricity all night when you don't really need it. My question is, what size timer should I use? I looked at timers tonight and wasn't sure what amp timer I should get. They had timers that are rated at 15 amps, but didn't have a grounded plug on them. There was an outdoor heavy duty timer, but was only rated at 10 amps. How many amps do I need? I couldn't find it in the owner's manual. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently bought a timer from Home depot.

It's made by Interdynamic, and it's a rainproof outdoor type with the ground wire. It was about $20. 00.

PS Oh yea, it's rated at 15 amps. The heater shouldnt pull more than 7 amps.

Volts X amps = watts.

I think someone said it's a 700 watt (+ or - 50 watts) heater, it's probibally in the owners manual if you'd like the exact figure.
