Anybody know what an OEM block heater consumes on a 1995 Ram? Thought it might be as low as 650 watts but that may be on the low side. Thanks. Any different for an ‘03 truck?
Just throwing this out there since cold has arrived! If you can, get a WIFI outdoor smart plug for your block heater. This way, you can program to only come on below a certain temp and time frame. Been doing this with mine and works out great! Plus, if needed, take out phone and turn on when needed outside of selected times. Just want to pass along this tip. Stay warm out there this winter!
Thanks Big Papa for the info. And thanks Topzide for that tip. I actually just started doing that same technique with a WiFi smart plug a few weeks ago for the same reason. Be well Gents!
I do the same with a battery maintainer. Have it back fed through the trailer plug and timed to come on from 6 pm til 6 am. That way, every time it turns on, does the de-sulfate cycling program and usually wouldn't be on when disconnecting. Added some Anderson Power Pole connectors on short wire from plug in case it's a quick go! That way, no wire dragging or damaging the charger. Good others are using tech to help out and not just make us dumber!
