Was the block heater an option on the 04. 5 model year? After owning a 93,95,96,99,01, i have never been misfortunate enough until now, to not have one.
Block heater is not an option but the cord to it was. I think this was the first year that the cord was an option but am not sure as this was my first diesel. I did order the cord when mine was ordered. I have seen other posts where the dealer charge quite a bit for it after the fact.
I ordered mine and have not even used it but once to see if it even worked. Where are you from and how often do you use the block heater?
I am from Tennessee, but i enjoy the convience of my truck being warmer, even on a cold day... . like say 25 degrees. lol. I guess i will have to go and see if the dealer will get me a cord to put on it so i can have enough heat to defrost my windshield in the mornings.
The heater is already there, unfortunatly we do have to aquire the cord. I was lucky enough to notice mine was not there when I picked the truck up new so I got the dealer to through it in. If I remember correctly it was only like a 10-15 dollar item, amazing D. C. will try and save a dollar on anything.
I guess your right about the save a dollar. It's a shame, though, you buy a 40,000 dollar-plus truck and now you need to make sure that they didn't screw you out of the block heater.
Yeah I don't like the fact that the cord is not a stock item either, but that kind of crap isn't unique to Dodge, they all do those kinds of things. Here in Mich, I wouldn't consider not having the cord, I have started the truck, unheated, at -13deg f. , started right up, but sounded like sh***. Besides for a 30dollar cord and 3 or 4 bucks a month electricity I like to have some heat from the vents MUCH sooner, well worth it for me. In fact I have strongly considered an Espar or Webasto so that sucker is "fully warmed up" when started. As you can tell I hate to be cold!!
I have decided to order my cord in the morning. I doubt that i will be able to keep from expressing my greivance about having to do so, while i am down there. I would like to thank all of you very much for clearing this up for me. So till next time---keep showing our competition that V8's were made to burn gasoline, i wouldn't think there should be much argument to that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
