Hey Guys,

I want to remove the blow by bottle and clean up the mess it has made. It is difficult to see how it is attached. How do I remove it ?

Thanks !!!

:) :) :)

On my 2001 the bottle is (read was) secured to the timing cover by a tie-strap. The hose slides into a hole in the bottle top. Just pull the bottle up, then slide it off the hose.

I used a 3/4" garden hose adapter and 3/4" heater hose. Put the adapter on the moulded host where it used to go into the bottle, and ran the heater hose along the frame to the transmission crossmember (troubleshooting a leaking front seal). Before winter I plan to shorten the run and tie it off straight down but short enough not to be seen dangling. The concern is condensation and gelling of sludge at the bends in the winter.

My 95 had the breather tube straight down - good enough then and good now.

Hope this helps.

Jeff,

Try a 10 mm wrench on the nut at the bottle—it secures the strap to a stud on the front of the engine. You can also pull the hose clamp that secures the 180° hose to the engine for a thorough (but temporary!) cleanup.

The easiest way is to use a crawler and roll under the front of the truck on your back, use a 10 millimeter box wrench to remove the little nut at the bottom section of the bottle. Then reach up and unscrew the cap on top of the bottle, slide the mounting strap off the screw stud and lower the bottle without tilting it and getting oil all over you. Just a note, on the inside of the cap there is a nylon zip tie to hold the hose into the top of the bottle. You may have to tilt the bottle slightly to pull the hose out of the bottle.

blowby bottle

Does anyone have and estimate for how often that little bottle fills up? Mine finally did at 14k. It will be the last time it does so.

I just left my bottle in place, but i pulled the hose out of it and used a 3/4" heater hose connector and ran a hose straight down to the ground. Problem solved.

Blow BY Bottle BYE BYE !!

I got that messy thing off and started the cleanup process, what a mess that thing made. EMD, used your idea with the heater hose, but I took mine back along the frame, it exits midway down the frame below the drivers door. I want to try and keep the area around the dana60 as clean as possible. In anticipation of the Mag-Hytec front dana60 cover.

Thanks Guys !!!
