I have a 2005 2500 Quad Cab with a blown #5 piston. Is it worth trying to get someone to rebuild it or is it more economical to buy a new engine. It has B&D Twins, ATS High Ram, TST Propane, Stage 2 CP3 Pump, Grand Rock Exhaust, FASS, Stage 2 Water Meth, BD Sp Eliminator, and beefed transmission and only 21000 miles... Truck itself is immaculate. Has anybody had to deal with this and what did it set you back. I'd have Dynomite Diesel do the work. Appreicate any input

Buy a new engine. There are new 325hp motors on ebay for like 6k.

Get off the drugs while your at it if you want the 2nd one to live.

Yeah man, I have a 05 with 34000 and just about all the goodies you do, minus the drugs and no issues so far. IF not used right, drugs can kill ya. ;)

I have an 05 also with 20k on it and also burnt up #5 piston, I had no drugs, just to much fuel. Anyway what I am doing is building the motor up, (rebuild with some goodies). I thought about buying a new short block thru dodge, which was about $6k but I thought that it would be better to stick the money into a rebuild and put in some good parts. Head studs, cam, valve springs, etc. I am have Scheid Diesel do all the work and it is going to cost est. around $11k. So yeah it is alot but I beleive that it will be alot better than stock.

Thanks

What were you running that gave you too much fuel? Did EGTs get too high, or boost? Thanks, Eric

ALLCHRYSLERPARTS. COM You can buy a stock replacement piston and rings for $152. 95! Talk to your shop, you should be able to repair the piston and cylinder, fire ring your head, and install a camshaft and valve springs for the price of one of the engines on ebay!

You could have the pistons ceramic coated for under $300. Do a search on the net. (swaintech.com)

That will be better than a stocker.

DynoMite Diesel put my new engine in last June/July. You have your truck at a great shop!

Mine sucked 4 valves down #5 cylinder. Cost me a new short block, new head, and turbo, to the tune of over $10K.

These engines are produced with enough power for the use they are intended for. There is an old proverb, " let the sleeping dog lie", this covers more than one situation.

There are a lot of options that one could go, it all depends on what they want to do, what they are comfortable doing ( just replaceing a piston and not fixing the cylinder or checking the other pistons that were stressed also). It all depends on what we want to do
