I bought a (used) Blue Chip FMS recently. My boost went up from 16-17 stock to about 21-22 with the box fully on. I dialed it all the way up and will go to about 40% fueling with those boost numbers. (My truck is stock other than the box and BHAF and straight exhaust).

Since the fueling increases according to the MAP sensor reading of boost pressure, I believe my boost is being waste-gated at that 22 psi and therefore fueling will stop also. For those of you who do not know, the box will fuel up to 63% with enough boost, which I do not have.

Since it reads boost off the MAP sensor, can I put in a stand alone boost fooler to help keep the waste gate from opening so soon and dumping at 22 pounds?

I know most of you guys have boxes with a boost fooler or put one in with your injectors but I haven't and my box did not come with one nor did I expect it to. I mean, I am happy with the 5 or 6 psi increase but I know I can go more.

What should I do? Use a 22 shell, turnbuckle, who sells just the boost fooler?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Nick,

How is wonderful Colorado! I have a stock 99 except for the Blue Chip FMS. Great box, I tow my fifth running at 30 percent with super performance. As to the boost, I am able to get up to 34 lbs even at 30 percent. The boost elbow was removed and a plug was installed in its place. This plug was included with the installation kit provided with FMS. I would also give Chip a call, as he will most likely take care of anything you might need with this box. Let me tell you, once you are up and running fully, you will need to upgrade your transmission if you have an automatic. Running solo at 63 percent will yield 36-38lbs of boost and an awesome ride.

You should have gotten a brass elbow with your FMS box that replaces the brass elbow on the turbo. There is a boost fooler built into the FMS - that is what tells the computer that it is making a max of 20 psi of boost no matter how high it goes. Then you need something to modify the wastegate so that it won't open at lower numbers - that is the brass elbow that should have come with the FMS. They may use a restrictor in the line instead of an elbow but there should have been something that came with it for the wastegate.

Thanks

I am assuming the guy I bought it from just forgot about it when he sold his truck. I looked at the max values from his truck that the box had saved. Something like 48 pounds and 3400 rpm and 1200 degrees. Wow. I reset it and max so far for me was 1107 degrees, 22. 7 pounds, and 3170 rpm or so.

Well, you two guys responded but I got two different answers. Is it a plug entirely or a replacement elbow with smaller hole? I just don't want to screw it up. A plug would be the easiest to get although a new elbow would still allow the wastegate to open.

Thanks a lot guys.

Nick

Added on edit: I have a 5-speed which I obviously plan to upgrade when I can. Does anyone know what size the elbow pr plug is? It looked like 1/4 pipe thread from what I have seen looking at it the few times.

And Colorado is great! Dry like usual but good. Christmas Day was 55 degrees :)

Nick,

When I installed my FMS, I already had an EZ installed with its elbow. The EZ replaced the stock elbow and the Blue Chip FMS replaced the EZ elbow with a plug. The hose was completely thrown away. Call Chip at (603) 880-7947, I believe he will supply you with all you need to make the FMS work correctly.

Got it

I just bought the two brass pipe plugs that I thought it could be from Home Depot and turned out to be 1/8th inch NPT. Cut the pipe clamp off and disconnected the hose. Unscrewed the elbow and screwed the new one in.

I am now seeing 34-36 pounds. Thanks guys!!!!

Nick
