For those that know more about these engines than me (that should be about everyone), what is the black wire on the top of the Blue Chip Pump cover for? I understand the red one is for hooking a box into the pump, but then there is still an extra wire... ??? Inquiring minds want to know... . What is it used for?

From what's been posted on here before by other members, it's used as a ground for THEIR, repeat, their, fueling box. DO NOT USE IT to ground another brand of box, such as a TST Powermax or an Edge Comp.

Ground the other brands according to the instructions that come with the box. If still in doubt, call Blue Chip yourself to verify, as well as the vendor you bought your fueling box from. I believe a couple of members had their injection pumps short out from using the black wire as a ground.

In theory, this connection is a ground, same as connecting your box ground wire to an intake bolt or the battery terminal. At least one member has their COMP box hooked up to this black wire, and he reports it works fine.

Blue Chip's boxes use this connector as ground reference for the pump wire voltage. The ground wire for the COMP box is for supplying current for the box itself, not as reference, although electrically one ground is as good as another (theory again).

In practice, I had to replace my (expensive) pump when I hooked my COMP black wire to the pump cover. A few members have suggested that running in the black wire's allen screw too far may have shorted adjacent contacts, but looking at the faulted pump's controller panel was inconclusive. Your call.

I connected my Comp ground wire to the B/C black wire, worked for me.

When I installed the B/C cover, before I ran the allens down, I hooked up a test light to the 2 wires, turned the ign on, then tightened down the red(power) allen 'till the light came on, then gave it another 1/4 turn... so I know neither wire is all the way through the back and touching a ground... . Did that make sense??
