Archived Absolutely NO power!

Archived Alright...Allright.. I need HELP!!!

The mighty Cummins came to a halt last night. Got on it hard and all of a sudden it lost all power. Pulled off the road and the odom code read P1693 w/MIL light on (DTC error in ECM). Cranked fine and lift pump audible. Suspecting injection pump. Got it towed home and unhooked the EZ box - no help. Hooked my laptop up to the OBD2 connector this morning (have OBD2 software) and read an error code of P1988 which says internal injection pump failure. Going to get it towed to the Dodge Boys tomorrow when they open.

Any offers of wise council here? Any additional thoughts or suggestions - besides "lots of luck"?

If it is indeed the VP, you have my sympathy.

Spend the money on a performance/hot rod VP that is available (cheaper than OEM, and waaaaay cheaper than the stea... dealer. ) and install it yourself.

LP audible... no gauges? Just because it makes noise, does not mean that it is moving fuel. Check that LP pressure!

On the off chance that the dealer says that the LP is dead, 98% chance that, that is what killed your VP, and not the Edge, which will get you a warranty replacement. The pump wire has not been molestered has it? Void sticker still intact?

Thanks for the input Sticks.

No, I don't have a fuel pressure guage, but I'll bet this moves me in that direction.

The Edge box I have is non-envasive, so it leaves no mark.

While a performance pump sounds great, I'll let DC pick up the dime on this one - while I still can!

That is only if it is under warranty. If they see any sign that there has been a box on the truck (Velcro on the PDC, clean data port/MAP plug, scuff marks on the wastegate from a turnbuckle - any of the above may entice them to look at the data stream records), they may try to void your warranty.

Not saying they will, but this is one of those little risks we take when we play.

For those of us that do have velcrow on the PDC cover, think we should just remove the cover before taking it in to the dealer? so there is no trace of the velcro? Or will the complain about that somehow?

All,

Go to the wrecking yard and get you a spare cover for the PDC.

Please excuse the statement made above!!!

Geez, what was I thinking... caught at a weak moment. I humbly apoligize to all, especially Gary. I'm still working on becoming a perfect human being... obviously I need to try harder.

"Oh, Lord, it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way... " Guess I'll never know.

you could have airlocked it--loosen a couple of injector line nuts and crank over until you get fuel--tighten up and crank some more should start---if no fuel--then VP or lift pump is dead---check lift pump by opening drain on filter--have some one crank engine--if fuel is gushin out of the drain with a lot of pressure then it's not your lift pump--but if it's got no pressure or no fuel--your lift pump is dead-----chris

Well, The D Boys put in a new pump and it seems to be working OK - EXCEPT some how the intake maniforld gasket got blown, but they totally overlooked the very load hissing noise and tried to give me back my truck (twice). Now we've got a gasket ordered (don't stock those either) and I'm driving around with a gutless powerhouse. Can't wait to get it back together so I can put my EZ box and wastegate block back on and let that motor do what it was designed to do - move them rear wheels - quickly!

;)

HMMmmm - am I the only one who noticed the irony of the above, as applied to this thread subject...

Bomb truck - blow up truck - REMOVE bombs to receive warranty coverge...

Yeah, THAT'S "right"...

But then - no one likes a preacher or comments concerning honesty and morality at times like this, do they. . ! ;)

A box should not void your warrenty. Unless your doing internal mods then screw the dealer you should get it fixed. The vp44 isnt the most reliable part anyways. Kinda overpriced? lol

Intake Maniforl Cover Gasket

Got a blown gasket!

The D Boys are tring to tell me that an intake manifold cover gasket is a controlled item from Cummins and they are refusing to replace it under warranty because I have an exhaust brake. They're full of you know what!

Anyone got the number for the INTAKE MANIFOLD COVER GASKET? I need one to shove up their nose!

Appreciate any help!!!

I thought dodge approved the use of a exhaust brake?

Plus how would that cause the intake gasket to blow. The brake is on the exhaust behind turbo. They are trying to play you for a fool... dont let them. Sorry i cant help on the part #

good luck!!!

erik:rolleyes:

LIES - compounded

The lie perpetuates with DC and the D Boys. They state that there are different engines and EMC/PCM's between autos and sticks - and that's why exhaust brakes can be put on diesels with sticks. They don't admit the reason they don't put exhaust brakes on autopmatics is because their torque converters are made out of old beer cans and can't handle the lock up during breaking. Henseforth, that's why we go to the bullet-proof trannys.

These local D Boys are trying to heap it on with LARGE scoop shovels - but it still smells the same! Going back to fight with them some more tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Intake manifold gasket part number is Cummins 3938158 I just bought 2 for under 8. 00

THANX Bob

Went to Cummins today and bought two myself ($6. 97 ea) - after fighting to no avail with the Dodge (their duty) Boys - they'll do anything to get out of a contract - just because they can, as they don't care about the merits of the issue. Well at least I got them to change the injector pump before they dug their heels in.

Oh well, I can do it cheaper and better than them anyhow!

By the way the number Cummins gave me for my particular motor serial number was 3938152 - hope it's right!

Seems to me maybe they shouldn't be EXPECTED to cover either. A FUELING box and FUEL injectors most certainly do affect the FUEL pump and it's warranty. Blocking the wastegate also increases intake manifold boost pressure and affects the gasket. Should the warranty on everything be void? Of course not - if the door panel falls off it's not because of these (or the exhaust brake). Would they have failed with a stock truck? Nobody can tell now.

But if you want to move them rear wheels quickly, you should be prepared to pay the man...

Either way, glad it's back up and running for you. :)
