So I just got (last night) my 2003 Quad cab long bed 2500. It has a blue boost gauge line running from one of the front intake bolts to the autometer gauge. I can't find any info on this tubing or really figure out what it is attached to. There is a small (maybe 3/8" wrench sized) hex head down in that hole, sticks up 1/8-1/4". The truck came with a true boost bolt in console and gauge isnt working? Any ideas?

Those trucks never came with a boost gauge so the line probably runs to the one in the console. Either the gauge died or the line has a hole in it somewhere. You will have to back track to find out which one is the problem.

Yes that is the style hose it had. However I am less concerned about the hose as I have the correct Autometer line. This "boost bolt" fitting thing is more what I have questions about there is a true boost bolt in the console so I'm not sure what this is

Easy to check, what is on the inside of that bolt. Not clear what you mean by console. The console is on the dash, this looks to be on the firewall somewhere.

Ok firstly I'm not new to vehicles or diesels. I am however new to computer controlled diesels. So with that being said, the console where my boost bolt is in between the front seats... you know the console/arm rest whatever you would like to call it. Secondly that is not the firewall it is the intake. So how is it so easy to determine what this "bolt" is but you offer no explanation nor advice?

There are a couple of bolt holes that don't go in to the plenum if I remember correctly. I think that front one may be one of them. Easy enough to find out. Pull it an look. I don't see anything wrong with using that style of fitting as long as it is goes in to the plenum other than it might blow off the hose at higher boosts. If it does you replace it with something with a more positive grip.

Thanks for your response. So that hole may not go into the intake to "pick up" the boost being delivered to the intake? I guess that would explain the boost gauge not working.

The boost bolt goes in the intake, not the console or dash or anywhere else. FYI, some people call the dash the console also and if you have a manual there is another potential "console" to consider. What you are saying makes no sense, regardless of what you mean. Not able to read your mind thru the internet. If you are trying to say you have an uninstalled boost bolt rattling around in the center console, why not just say that instead making everyone guess at what you mean?

Every heard of labeling your pictures? No way to tell if that is the intake in your truck, firewall, a wall in your garage, or something you downloaded form the internet.

If you are asking if this boost line to a boost in the intake manifold of your truck is correct, why not just state that instead dancing around the issue? Since you did not bother to remove the hose so the type of fitting can be seen how would anyone know what is under there?

If it is the barb fitting and the correct hose then it is probably ok, but no way to tell with what you have posted. Since the line has to run to the gauge thru a lot of sharp areas frequently a cut line is the reason the gauge quits working. If you do not feel THAT is useful then just rip it all out and start over so there will be no questions.

Please just go away, you are not being helpful and your input is no longer needed.

no snickers needed, I'm old enough to not have time for stupid answers and people wasting my time

Ah, just let him go Alan. Seems to be another grumpy old man that knows most everything and doesn't have enough life left to waste on learning what little he doesn't know. I just don't understand why they post up a question at all. Although, it seems he hasn't lived long enough to know that there's nothing gained in treating others as he has here.

I didn't understand why he had a boost bolt in the console either and like you, I couldn't tell what the pic was until he said it was the intake.

Alright so here is what I found.

Apparently you can break a boost bolt off in an intake and then tap said broken boost bolt and put a very small fitting into it with that blue line on it, then you run it all the way to the boost gauge and instead of connecting it you fold it over and tape it off. I removed all the ghetto fabulous trash and borrowed the oil dipstick tube hold down bolt from the intake to fill the void left in intake. Then I took the "boost bolt that was lying loose in my console" and threw it into the trash along with the other junk.

Handy tip for broken boost bolt extraction with out an easy out.... use a T-25 Torx and tap it into broken boost bolt to extract it from its home and then throw it in trash too.

My apologies to you both for well, being an ***. Please see your PM's.

I take that means it was the broken off piece form the manifold? You could have just JB welded that back on and been in business. LOL! I should not even mention that, it has been done. :(

No worries, glad you got if figured out. Sometimes the scorched earth policy is the best idea. :)
