Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Blue Smoke / Rough Engine

Well, I was driving along and the engine started missing and a fair amount

of Blue smoke coming out the exhaust. I drove one hundred miles this way

and seen blue smoke maybe 4 times. Accelerating in 2nd gear (Auto) creates

a lot of stumbling. Is this the famous LP symtom? Have 42,000 miles on stock

truck.

I was about to post on this, my truck just started doing the same thing.

OK, to both of you, have you pulled codes?



Without starting the engine, turn the key on, off, on, off and back on (this will not work on yours MBachmeier - go to auto zone to have them pull the codes for you). The timing does not have to be super quick, but quick just the same. About one chime every time you go to on. In the odometer window it will flash codes for the PCU and ECU. Bring a pencil and paper and write down any codes that show up.



The missing could be any number of things. Bad fuel, water in fuel, clogged fuel filter, VP44 failing, timing,...



Do either of you have gauges? What is your fuel pressure. You can hook up a fuel presssure test gauge to the schrader port on the VP44.
