Has anybody here heard of "NICKEL CREEK"??

I am deaf in one ear and impaired in other. I LOVE country music that IS COUNTRY but have a hard time being able to understand or like a lot of this new stuff that is more like R&R. Recently heard a new group on TNN and finally found their 1st CD released just recently. I don't normally get very excited about this kind of stuff but "NICKEL CREEK" is worth a listen. Their style is Bluegrass - slightly modified. :) :)

I've been a fan of Nickel Creek for quite a while now. What amazes me is that the oldest member is only 24 I think, and they have been playing together for over 10 years. It really shows too.

Some more info at www.nickelcreek.com

The page doesn't seem to be working right now. Might just be a server problem.

if ya listen to the words, the lighthouse keeper's fieance dies in a ship wreck in the 2nd verse due to not being able to see the light house, he buryers her in the 3rd verse and runs off of the top of the light house (splat)

Bluegrass

Had the "Nickel Creek" cd playing when I saw this thread... ...

They are pretty good, kinda slow for bluegrass imo, but it is a really good cd.

The Del McCoury Band is where its at, there newst cd is FANTASTIC (Del and the Boys). I had the pleasure of seeing them play about a month ago in Gallatin, TN. Four guys standing around one microphone. They were so good they didn't sound real... one of the most impressive displays of musical perfection I have ever seen. The White Family, th Osbourne Brothers (sp?), and a JAMMIN' Larry Stephenson Band (sp?) were also there. I fyou are ever in the Nashville area 1130 am WYXE ("Wixie in Dixie") plays A LOT of bluegrass and they promote lots of shows... worth a listen.

I love Nickel Creek. Wish to goodness they'd play more banjo in it - whoever plays banjo on the first song sure knows what they're doing, but then there's no banjo the rest of the album.

The mandolin player does some pretty complicated picking - not bad for a bunch of "kids"!
