i hope you guys can help me out here. as i was driving today i noticed alot of bluish/ white smoke from the exhaust when i let off the throttle. at a stop light i took off as usual and expected to see some black smoke and instead there was a whole lot of light colored smoke again. as i drove home to put it away i watched the exhaust and saw almost a steady haze of the same thing and worse when i jumped on the throttle instead of the normal black cloud.

she has just under 300k on her with some modified injectors, and a 215hp pump with a #100 plate. dynoed 415hp and 810tq at the 37's as is. could i have finally blown the head gasket? or worse? thanks in advance:

Have someone kind of blip the throttle or rev it while parked and you stand near the tailpipe & take a whiff to determine if it's oil or fuel causing the smoke. Fuel will make a rich stinky cold diesel smell, oil will of course smell like burning oil.

My '98 starting hazing light smoke, I had someone put it in Drive while holding the brake and give it a little throttle while I stood outside to do a smell test. Exhaust started smelling like a tired Detroit diesel (burning oil & exhaust combined smell). Turned out to be a bad turbo bearing.

I just got home and fired it up again and no smoke??? what the hell? #3 injector was seeping a little and the lift pump has been making an annoying ticking sound for a while but the fuel press is good, 22psi idle and over 30 at 2k. the exhaust oily though. the turbo is fairly new but where the exhast scroll and the bearing cartrage slip together it looks as if it is seeping some oil there too. Im not known for beeing easy on equipment so anything is possible i guess

I had the same problem when I put on my new turbo. I had a problem with getting the oil drain tube clearing between the compressor housing and wastegate actuator. I talked to a tech at the Cummins dealer and he recommended I use heater hose. Well, after a while, the hose ended up collapsing on itself, so I replaced it with a high temp hydraulic hose.
