Another thing that chaps my butt!!!

Along with the butchering of the National Anthem and the halftime show, I think this year's superbowl commercials pretty much sucked.

In particular, I did a slow boil during the commercial showing "all diesels" to be smoky, sooty, nasty polluters. Especially that evil truck driver's rig. Did you see his face? You could tell his entire purpose in life was to make everyone sick with diesel fumes and smoke.

At the last moment, BMW suddenly tries to tell everyone that they, and they alone, make a clean, socially-acceptable, politically-correct diesel. This only after nauseating everyone to the very idea of a diesel.

Bite me, BMW. Keep your overpriced foreign trash in europe where it belongs! You couldn't build a decent commercial truck if your survival depended on it!

I am with you on the BMW commercial.

I did however like the Chrysler 200 one

Exactly what I was gonna say on this one!!! :D

Truth is that ALL of the current MFR's have to meet the same standard PERIOD!!! If "clean" diesel is what you want, then ALL of them sold after the '10 model year are just that!!! ALL of the new ones are near zero emissions and MUCH cleaner than gas!

So much propaganda out there nowadays that even Joseph Goebbels has to hold a candle to this one!!! :-laf:-laf

What the commercial doesn't tell you is that none of those vehicles smoked like that when new. It is also telling you didn't see a 524 td in the ad either- they probably couldn't find one. I did, however, see a Volvo that smoked like that one a number of years ago. I doubt their 335D will age as well as my old Mercedes, time will tell.

Darth Vader was neat.
BMW was telling our country that we don't know squat about diesels. The black smoke scenes were not good for diesel powered vehicles. Just shows what the marketing dept at BMW doesn't understand. The commercial was not thought out.
The BMW 524 TD engine was a Lincoln Mark 7 in 1985-86. 114 horse with 162 ft lbs of torque. In those years not to many rides were smoking the tires. I bought a new 81 VW rabbit with just 51 diesel horses. I miss that little ride.

In those years, many cars could hardly go up a hill, and some never saw the high side of 10 MPG. That's why the Mercedes diesel of that era was so successful- it would out perform many gas cars on 1/3 the fuel.
