And I mean this literally! I was ready to buy another truck tomorrow. This is in regard to the thread, "Please tell me DC didn't do this". My truck has been dead in the water for 2 weeks now. Four tows, one new engine, three ECM's, and two shops later the dealer tells me I need to replace the engine I just put in because it's a 6-speed and mine's an automatic. They are not interchangeable, according to the dealer... ... I got lots of ideas from TDR - some of them we thought of, some we didn't. Thanks to everyone who sent thoughts and ideas. Bob 4X4 suggested I contact Bob Wagner. Ironically, that afternoon I was thinking the same thing. I called Bob. An hour later he called me back and said "You have mail" :) 2 hours later, I'm at my truck - 5 minutes later I'm driving my truck out from behind the dealer's shop with the Service Writer's jaw on the floor:--) and the tech shaking his head:confused: Bob and Marco are second to NONE!! Their customer service ROCKS!! Thanks - Randy.

YOU know it Bud thats exactally what I was going to buy as a backup my 97 went 389k then I sold it DUH that was stupid. Anyway life is now better Thanks to BOB Randy

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that he has a Smarty and they wrote him a tune to fix the ECM in the truck so that it would work with his new mis-matched engine...

Bingo.

I have heard this story more then once. I so wish I could of been at the dealer when you fixed your truck and drove it away.

Marco is a genius when it comes to this sort of thing.

Ha haaaaaaaa!!!!

I wish I could have seen the service writer, service manager and mechanic's expressions. Priceless!!!

Good job Marco!

Oo. BINGO thats what they did we had people standing all around it shaking thier head it was great!!!! Randy

Did they (dealer) put in the wrong motor to begin with?

NO actually I had another shop do it. But Im the one that sourced the motor I just had no idea that DC would be so STUPID#@$%! as to make a motor for 6spds and one for autos the diffence is on the front of the crank not the rear as many have suggested but now its running Thanks again Marco Oo. Randy

Maybe not stupid, but on purpose to not allow the wrong software to run in an auto, and vice versa.

Sounds like the tone wheel may be off a few degrees between the two trucks, maybe a couple of teeth? Look at the TDC mark on both engines, and then count how many teeth to the gap, going CCW.

If the tone wheel and dampener are the same P/N, it may be off by a quarter turn.
