This my 1st posting in the Forum so bare with me. I have a 2004 2500 long bed dual cab/ 96,250 miles. Only additions are EGT, Boost & transmission Temp Ind's. To the problem. If I can describe it well enough. Noticed yesterday that after stopping and then starting off again it feels like first may not be there because the truck feels hesitant as accelerator is applied but then the truck takes off and runs fine. It did this twice yesterday. Today as I accelerated from a stop I haeard a whirring sound from the transmission for just a second and the truck shifted normal. This happened twice today. Also once today when shifting from 1st to 2nd there was a hesitation and clunk. Like made a solenoid is starting to fail. I'm just looking for ideas from all of you knowledgeable people out there. Since the 48RE has been around a long time.
Thanks for any suggestions and ideas. I have been a member since I bought this 2004 Ram.

Does it shift into overdrive? Pull it into low (1) then start accelerating then move shift lever to (2) does it shift? . Are you getting a check engine light? Usually not going into low and OD is Gov. press. solenoid.

Yes it shifts into OD. It just seems to happen when I first pull away. I'll try shifting form 1st to 2nd manually today. The check engine light is NOT on. I appreciate your advise.

Ya that's a weird one . I have a check engine light on which is for the gov press solenoid . My symptoms are it won't start in first and won't go into OD . Once it warms up I pullover and shut the truck on and restart it it then is fine . Just haven't had time to drop the pan. Where are you located?

The 1-2 and 2-3 shifts in a 48RE are all hydraulic, no solenoids involved in the shifting. The only solenoid that could affect it is the gov pressure solenoid.

When was the last time the trans was serviced and bands adjusted, as a guess your front band is loose and causing some shift timing issues.

Same question for the gov solenoid and transducer, when were they last changed? Those 2 pieces have a finite lifetime, sometimes in days. The transducer is the worst one as it will start drifiting readings which messes up shifting and induces random quirks, all without a CEL or code.
