2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission body lift for dummies?

Does anyone know of a decent thread or can provide some personal knowledge to me about lifting my truck? This is the first pickup I have ever owned and don't know the first thing about lift. If someone could break it down stupid style for me I would appreciate it

Just lifting the body or suspension too? I don't have a body lift, but I do know others who have done this, basically putting spacers in between the mounts to the frame of the truck. Just remember there are a few things that may require modifications, or relocation, bumpers, stick shifts, possibly some under hood components. I wanted to do this to my truck but our local laws here are so vague about body lifts, and everyone I've asked had a different answer about the legal height that I just gave up on the idea. Hope this helps a little.

I don't really know the difference??? When I decide to do my suspension (when I have the money for it) I would like to do probably a 4" lift.
