Hey all,

I had the misfortune of discovering an amount of rust under the fender flares the previous owner installed. I have had two appraisals and total cost to fix was $6500 by one place and $4200 from another. Passenger side fender needs replacement and the driver's side box side. The passenger box side is apparently salvageable with the driver's side fender being flawless
I'm wondering if it is worthwhile in the interest of keeping the resale value higher if one day I decide to sell or perhaps opinions on what you guys might do.

I was going to have the bottom of my drivers side door fixed (3,800 - new door, color matching and fading of color and clear), for 3 years hemmed and awed about it, than I got hit in the side of the bed, hit and run. So be it.... never bothered to fix that hit or the doors, and now the bottom of the 1/2 doors of the quad cab are bubbling up.
Mines a 99 ...

See if you can peak into your lower door panels and see what they look like.

The rest of the truck is flawless... It was undercoated when new and still looks that way now.
I should clarify that the truck has 292,000kms on it now. Mechanically it is *almost* perfect with a couple leaks to be addressed at my next OCI

I feel quite fortunate for a northeast truck.
Front fenders, no rust. Doors, same. EDIT: Cab ...spotless.
Bed, well there's some that's been starting around the tops of the wheel wells. Not a lot, just enough to annoy me.

I know it's a little late for some, and in some areas the way the winters are it wont make a difference. But I've always hand washed my truck. I've also always opened my doors, cupped my hand and washed the bottom insides of my doors. Also I made sure the drains were opened.
My truck is not undercoated, and I've never had any rusty jones type treatments. Maybe I was just lucky.

If you are going to keep it get some rust free panels, maybe a bed and get it together painted, you can't 'fix' rust, you have to eliminate it !
