Get a mail box in Emmett and register the truck there.

Just stop by one of the red vans in Boise and they can tell you more about the regs, or you can call the local agency.

From what I have heard, my truck is still exempt until Jul 1, its a visual check for cat (if so equipped), OBDII check for CEL's, and a opacity check.

Smog

Gee I thought it was just Caif that had their Head ( insert what you want) dont tell me that other states are just as (once again insert what you want) come November We Will get rid of Mussel head and his truly ugly wife and get some other (insert again)criminal in to (insert again) for another 4 years. We`ve got it pretty easy here in cal. , just a visual, OBD II scan for codes, check eng lite, and visual smoke. no rollers. arizona ,col, Idaho, new york, pennsivania, and I think other states have more strict smog checks. :-laf

Opacity is a vague test today... the rev the engine and than snap the throttle... than look for smoke at the tail pipe. . its a judgment call by the tester if you fail or pass... .

I've read in Automotive news that these laws will get tighter as the newer emission standards go into effect... and each state will be forced to increase testing and proof that the vehicle meets standards as it ages... other wise they loose their road share dollars...

I know that OR, WA have changed their systems and will start to enforce newer (tighter) standards in the up coming months... For us here in WA, what was just a snap test (opacity) will become a connection to OBDII and equipment that functions... which to me reads, not just and empty shell of a catalyst... and an EGR that is on the truck but not functioning...

Smoke Test

One of the Ford guys at work had his P. O. S smoke tested and it didnt pass. Went back to same shop for retest and left 50 bucks on the seat and low and behold it passed. The test is purely at the hands of the tester no sniffer in the tailpipe Just an eyeball test. Just another way for more money from you and me

No emission tests, gas or diesel in Franklin County PA. When I lived in NY, diesel opacity was tested with a tailpipe sniffer. If you can't pass 40%, you have a problem. Never had to have my Dodge tested, as it was registered as a passenger vehicle (that's changed now), but I had a 2002 International 4300 with a DT466 that would test at less than 1% opacity- and that's with no emission controls at all.
