Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) bomb ideas for a 24 valve

My dad has a 02 high output diesel with the six speed. Right now all that he has in it is a power puck which helped the truck out some. I mean he is in the construction business and has a custom bed built on this truck that really makes it look good, but with all his tools and stuff and full of diesel in his tank he runs around at like close to 10,500-11,000 pds without anything being pulled behind him. He was wanting to upgrade his truck some more but not wanting anything that is going to require a clutch upgrade right away. something like injectors, which do you all think would be the best for him to get and where do you suggest getting them at, or is there something else you all might suggest. Tony, I can't speak for the clutches on the '02 ETH's, but the clutch on the '01's wasn't made for much more than stock power. I'd be real hesitant to add even a set of 275 RV injectors without knowing that a clutch upgrade is in the near future. If dad decides that he can handle a clutch upgrade, I'd say stage/step 2 injectors would make him smile.

I agree, anytime you add more power you are increasing the chances of the clutch slipping. I know. I went with the edge ez and added the 275's. I drove a while like this but it wasn't long till the clutch started slipping. Not real bad but I put a new clutch in anyway. I was told not to upgrade too much till you are ready to upgrade the clutch along with it.

Establish a benchmark FIRST

Tony, you did not state whether your Dad's truck already has gauges, just the Powerpuck? Gauges are really a MUST (even) before anything else comes close... ... .



Consider also a fuel pressure gauge, as well as the standard pyro and turbo boost set-up..... if only to keep a watchful eye out for a lift pump that might want to chuck in the towel and starve your fuel pump someday... . :{

no gauges yet but those will probably come later on. Not sure but I know another kid with 2002 HO with the BD box adjustable to 120 horse and DD3 injectors or the equivalent who pulls 30 ft stock trailer on daily bases still with the stock clutch no problem so are the clutches really that weak.

As far as the "kid" with the box and 3's and stock clutch--he's got a wonder clutch or remarkably light-footed driving technique. Mine will hold if I keep the boost under 20-25# or in level 3, but level 4 or 5 with stock injectors and no load will slip it.

My clutch is still stock, I drive light footed 20-21 mpg so I don't slip the clutch but I can.



If he is hauling that much weight though, I'd be hesitant to say upgrade until he is ready to do the clutch.



Also be aware that technically, he will be putting his warrantee in hot water.
