I though of the TDR mag fix for the sagging seat today so I got all the stuff to do it... $15. 00! Pulled the seat bottoms off (4 bolt's) installed the 2" foam and a piece of carpet with it for protection, Wow what a difference it made, I now sit real tall in the truck and the seat cushon is real firm, I knew I needed something before making a 4K trip! One other thing to add is when/if you do this is to swap seat cushons, mine was a little dogged out on the corner from getting in and out and this fixed all of that stuff. Yea a new seat foam would have worked too but heck it was cheap and painless.

10-4

I did this to my driver's seat the day after I got the magazine in the mail. Works great. I recommend this fix for anyone with a sagging seat (in their truck, that is:p )

can anyone give me directions on the seat fix? it's not sagging much, except a little the middle (or just lacking). some more padding would be great! i don't have the older issues of the tdr...

First decide how high you want to sit in the truck, I'm 6'0" and I sit pretty high in it with the fix. Get some high density foam padding 14"x18" either 1" or 2" thick and some protection from the springs like an old piece of carpet... not rubber backed. There are 4 bolts that hold the seat cushion on, take them out and put the seat cushion on the ground so you can use your knees for weight with protection under it... ... no..... the other kind of protection... . for the seat:p The seat cushion has J hooks that fasten it on to the frame, push down in the middle and undo them... . they are a little bit of a pain, once you get it loose fold the springs back and place the new piece of foam in the middle for fit check, take it back out and spray some adhesive on it then put it back in place, put the carpet protection over that then fold the springs down and reinstall the seat cover J hooks. Install the seat on opposite sides if the corners are dogged out or if you wish and you to will be sitting tall. With mine done in 2" foam and the seat all the way raised my head will rub the roof.

I just put a piece of carpet between the springs and the original foam. This helped things out good enough for me. The OEM foam was cut pretty badly by the wires and the springs. The carpet piece in there no longer allows the foam to cut into the wires.

Also in my '96 the seat bottom did not come apart like the one in the TDR mag.

I have pics if anyone is interested, just shoot me a PM or email.

Just a note of caution--I put in adjustable back cushion--when I removed the seat cover, I unhooked the seat belt. . darned thing retrated right to the top and I could not get it to release--to make long story short, my 5-star replaced as safety item--didn't cost me, but I bet DC would stick it to you..... just be careful out there, folks... ... ... ... ... ... . R, J. B.

I bomb mine too! But then my wife has to roll the window down to get fresh air:D :D

by the way, how come our trucks don't have window locks. . :D :D :D

Lean toward door

Anybody else notice a definite cant toward the door? Feels like I'm leaning on the arm rest all the time. :(

Dealer replaced driver seat cushion when truck was new. I complained and he agreed it sagged toward the door.

Maybe it's just my fat wallet:rolleyes: I'll try the other pocket.

Seriously, anybody else notice this?

My wife's been complaining about the same thing, on the passenger side of course. I didn't notice it, but then I never sit on the passenger side. Heck, I'd sit on a milk crate to drive my CTD. ;)

well, i just did my seat fix today. i couldn't find any foam except the matress type--so i picked one up and cut it up. i put foam in the middle and around the sides. i sit up about 1 1/2 inches higher with a nice cushy ride. feels like a big rig now. i also put the piece of carpet in too. the bottom of the cusion was cut into some.

I ended up buying a big piece of that egg crate foam for about $5 at Wally world ( you could double it up if you wanted). And had a scrap piece of carpet. It didn't seem to lift me much, but it did take the "lean" out you are talking about. and my butt doesn't get tired after 3-4 hours in like it used to. I skipped the spray on glue (mostly cuz I didn't have any) but couldn't figure out why to use it either. Definately a cheap bomb for your ride and a good one too!

CumminsPuller, I got the foam from a apholstery(sp) guy but it says you could get it from a craft or fabric shop... I was thinking HobbyLobby, just call around for a 14x18" piece(s) bet someone has some scrap.

Good thread!

I drove a medium duty truck (ramp truck) recently with an air ride seat. Man, was that cushy... ...

In the meantime - I really have to do the bottom cushion trick.

I think all the BOMBs I have been dropping on it have slowly taken their toll. :D

TMTT: We talked before about how to measure the amount of accolade one should garner from a crowd of fans after a BOMB.

Your theory involved the number of laps you are able to walk around the garage whilst BOMBing.

How would one quantify the quality of a BOMB while sitting in the cab of their CTD?

Do we have to get a rally computer and measure the number of 'clicks' that it lasts as we tool on down the freeway? (We do want to be fair and impartial... you know... )

Or is it measured by the amount of time the passengers hang their heads out the window in disgust?
