After reading many posts about the bomber lite (Piers Modified 3g turbo) I decided to add one to offset the higher egt's of an EZ Edge while towing. My first impressions while not towing were positive. However, recently I towed my travel trailer about 10,000 lbs loaded from the flatlands of Los Angeles to the High Sierra's (Bridgeport, Ca. ) 7000-8000' elevation. I found that even at lower elevations around 3000' the turbo would bark while in overdrive on flat land. I called Piers and talked to Mark (while towing) and he immediately suggested their B1 turbo. He told me that they do occassionally experience the barking problems with the bomber lite while towing. I resorted to towing in 3 gear for most of the trip.

My question is: Should I go with a B1 turbo and would that cure the barking? Is there something comparable to the B1 that makes for an easy install and that will eliminate the barking? I'm not interested in twins and don't want to go back to a stock turbo. Thanks for any help.

Thanks Tomey, I actually bid on that turbo. I think my last bid was 1027. 00. I've looked at Pier's website and see that they appear to have lowered the price of the B1 a couple hundred dollars. Just trying to see what options might be out there.

Mine barked when I first put it on on they (Piers) suggested I take the silencer ring out and after that no more problems. I also tow a 32' TT and do not have any barking when towing.

I ran several of these when they first came out. I had the same problem and Piers recommended the same thing. I removed the silencer ring and can't remember any barking after that. Although, if it is in the nature of that turbo to bark, then I'm sure it was still barking. Without the silencer ring to catch that air coming back through, the bark is probably quieter and you just can’t hear it happening as often.

Hi KC, The barking noise that I'm referring to happens both when I shift and while under load. The travel trailer that I pull isn't very aerodynamic and when I hit overdrive it's all over ( barks easily, unless I feather the throttle ). I can get it to work in overdrive without barking if I want to do 80, but I don't feel comfortable driving that fast with 10,000 lbs pushing me.

My '03 with BHAF, stock turbo, & 5" exhaust "barks" (actually it's more of a "howl") while towing 10-15,xxx lbs. when i'm in higher rpm's. I just ease off the throttle a little(???). I'm looking at turbo's for towing and considering a

B-1 or something else that has high ratings and good cooling. I don't know which turbo is the best.
