I think they will be bombed to higher levels than the 12 valve or the ISB. From the 600+ HP bombs I have seen, the old engines run rough, drool and slobber at idle with excessive smoke even at idle. Since they have only one fuel injection pulse, the injection nozzle holes are LARGE to get the fuel in for 600 HP and thus just dribble and drool at idle with big fuel drops.

The common rail will allow multiple fuel shots over a longer period with better timing control. The high HP 3rd gen engines should be civilized drivers compared to the ultra high HP 12 valve and 24 valve ISB engines. The variable turbo should allow still more control of engine variables.

I predict the 2003 and early 2004 3rd gen engines (before exhaust gas recycle) will be the preferred setup in the future.

I highly doubt you will ever see the VGT turbo on the Dodge application. When I was in Columbus for the nationals I was able to arrange a tour of the tech facility for myself and a small group. The VGT turbo costs 4 times what the current turbo does - no way Dodge will foot that bill. I would have to agree that you will probably see the common rail engine bomb'd to higher specs. The problem with it is that it's most likely going to be far more expensive to do so. One, the injectors are going to be WAAAAY more expensive - each one will cost more than an entire set of the current ones. To put a bigger turbo on is going to require a custom exhaust manifold, etc. JMHO

Just think. .

The Duramax 300hp engines with an Edge Juice adding 90hp are faster on the road then any Cummins with just a "fueling box" added on, this is because of the Duramax' higher stock horsepower.

Now, when Edge or any other (is there any other?) fueling box company comes out with a Product for the Cummins ECHO's

you will probably see an increase in performance comparable to the Duramax (similar fuel system ie BOSCH).

In conclusion, with just a fueling box these Cummins Common Rail High Output engines will absolutely FLY!!!

Cant wait to see what the 305/555 HO with the Auto 48rfe transmission is going to be like!!

Cummins Power!!

I think the new ones will have more potential power, but at a higher cost. Steve,my cousins Dmax is a crew cab,4x4,loaded,with TV's,stereo ,westin steps,,and tons of extras,it weighs more than my truck,on the road that truck flat out flys for having just one mod,I bet it runs 15 flat easy, maybe high 14's. My truck is a mid 13;s,and its not that far back. He dont even have 4" exhaust yet. Also he has zero smoke even at WOT off boost,it just goes like crazy, the trans is clearly overwhelmed though, and it cant shift fast enough.
