I managed to shift into reverse will moving forward at 30 mph. The rear locked for 1/2 sec and I was able to get back into neutrel and restart the engine which had stalled. The truck seems to have suffered no ill effects and no codes where set in the computer with 186000 miles and all original equipment I'm sure this wasn't part of the recipe to add longevity. Any other boneheads have experence with this? As I just recentley serviced the transmission do you think I gain anything by dropping the pan again and or what would be the 1st symptom of impending Doom. Thanks guy's Tim

More than likely if something got hurt you would know by now. If a shaft broke or teeth are missing I think it'd be pretty obvious. I'd just drive it and be thankful it's a stout transmission.

Just for fun. I was going down a steep grade in california at 85mph knocked it in reverse tires squeeled and truck listed to the side and my cat like reflexes or " OH **** here comes the wreck " kicked in left two black marks since it was a posi in the rear. "and one black mark in my fruit of the looms: The transmission is working fine since I serviced it. Damon:)

So there aren't any teeth in an auto transmission? It's all fluid coupling? No clutch packs that could have broken a tooth off? I'm pretty sure there are, next time you have an auto apart ya should take a closer look. It makes you look kinda  when you post a :-laf to my post.

honestly, I wasnt trying to be an ***, and to be completely honest, i have never had a auto transmission apart. It was more of a friendly poke, thats all! :-laf

No harm done, I'll take it as a friendly poke then... I just interpreted it different when I read it. Yeah, add a few shafts, some clutch drums , a vb and other parts and there's a lot that could go wrong in an auto... . glad I got a dtt.
