Well I have begun being obscene in my replies to people who email me. My truck is for sale in the classifieds. I have had over 40 people contact me. Some people have convinced themselves that just because some book has a number printed in it that it is gospel so they send me the book value as if I did not know it. To these people I am quite rude. Book value means nothing. If you think you can buy a truck in the shape and condition of mine for what "the book" states as value - go for it. Just don't whine when you stick another $5000 into it because everything blows up right after you get it. Get serious or #@(& @##. I can part it out for book value.

Ouch!

I'm also selling mine, book says $7000 but I'm asking for at least $6k... 7 seams high for my truck.

I know the fealing, I'm getting e-mails left and right.

ran into the same problem when i was looking into a 2002 3500. they wanted to give me 3000 because my truck "was not so nice" i told the sales person what was not so nice and where he could drive that truck i WAS going to purchase. lol.

I agree with you, stick to your guns and ask what you want, There are people that know what you have and know what they are worth.

I had the same people try that with me, I fellow came 200 miles to drive my mint 93 Clubcab truck, ranted and raved about it being the best he had seen in months of looking, and then pulled out a wad of cash and tried to offer me $2500 less than I was asking??? I just to him to go pound himself, he got quite irate and then proceded to pull out a Kelly blue book and tried to show me what it was worth.

Told him to quit wasting my time and leave, he left and was saying that I would never sell my truck, sold it the very next week end

Just my 2 cents worth

Good luck

Thierry

It all depends whose book value that you use. Just tell them that in your books it is worth so much and if they don't like it - well then they good bye.

Set your price and stick to it. It is funny that car salesman always like to use book value when you trade your vehicle in but never on the vehicle that they sell.

I paid $10k for mine, from the original owner and with 47k miles. Around here, even junk trucks bring more than book value - I was looking at total garbage for $9000 or more from private parties... dealers were even worse.

Book value doesn't mean squat unless you have a run-of-the mill vehicle. Dodge CTDs certainly don't fit that category. ;)

I paid $10750, WAY over what the "book value" was at the time - and I have never looked back. This is the best truck that I have ever owned and would pay over book value again for one. I am dealing with the same BS over a travel trailer right now that I am selling - people think that being rude and "tearing apart" your machine will get them a lower price. Hold your line and when someone that appreciates the value of your truck finds you, the deal will be made.

Keith - Is your truck white with blue scallops? If so, nice truck!:) I really considered buying it but decided I wanted an auto instead.

I just picked mine up last weekend after driving 650 miles. While it is a nice truck and I am happy with it. It was not near as nice as the PO had led me to believe. I went out there with a "wad " of cash fully intending on paying the asking price. Then after seeing it I decided it was not what I was after. He came off the price. I never even offered a lower price.

I was planning to go look at BCooks truck this weekend. But it was a price that I could not say no to. I drove it back 650 miles without any problems. I just finished putting $300 in the brakes and will spend another $500 or so still yet. But I am happy and so was the seller.

They are worth what the buyer is willing to spend on it. I never even looked at the book value on it. I know what I am willing to pay for a certain truck. I don't need no book to tell me. Stick to your price . If it is truely a gem someone will spot it for what it really is. Good luck.

After buying my '02, and finally transferring all my RV towing and radio goodies out of the '91, I checked book prices on the 120,000 mile 11 year old baby - a bit over $5000 - sold it for $7000 cash to the first caller...

I woulda KEPT the old girl before selling for much less... ;)

bgilbert, thanks for the welcome. I just joined the TDR, but have been reading for years. This is my first, first gen but second CTD. My 94 with 248,000 was totaled about a month ago. I've always liked the looks of the first gens and decided that is what I wanted this time around.

Gentryville is about an hour east of Evansville, near Holiday world.
