Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Boost Confusion??

I just helped a friend disable his wastegate with a J-hook. His truck is stock other than a 4" exhaust and K&N air filter. After the work was done he took if for a spin and only hit 23 lbs of boost. I was a bit puzzled as I expected to see him get to at least 30 lbs.



I can hit 34 lbs on my truck easily but then again I have a catcher ECM. Does he need a fueling box or did I not tighten the J-hook enough?

you are making it make more boost by disabling the wastegate, however the computer on the truck is seeing to much boost and derating the engine. you need a boost fooler or a fuelling box with one it. your catcher ecm has the boost fooler right in it.

Well, how much boost should I stock 01 with a HY-35 be able to make without a fueling box? I didn't add the J-hook on mine until after I put the catcher in so I do not know what to expect for his. The more I think about it with stock injectors and turbo he may not get higher than say 25??

on my truck with the boost fitting and before i but the injectors in and the box off i could make 30 psi with mine. he should be able to make 25-30 but your going to have to get a electronic boost fooler or something of that nature cause the ECM will continue to cut back the fuel as long as it sees over 21 psi(i think that's what they defuel at)
