i been lookin at puttin a westach dual boost/egt gauge in my truck. i was wonderin, where do i put the boost sensor, and is it necissar to remove the trubo to drill and tap the manifold for the egt probe? the reason im gonna go ahead and get it, is because im replacing my exhaust manifold gaskets, and i figgured it would go ahead and drill it will i had it pulled back from the block, just enough to get a magnet or somthing in there. whats yalls expirience with this?

For the boost gage hookup. Look under the intake horn on the side of the head is a 1/8" pipe plug. Pull it out and run your boost gage fitting there.

On the pryo I normaly drill the hole and have a shop vac hose close to the drill bit. Then when I tap the hole I use grease on the tap, then use a long handled magnet to fish the rest out of the manifold.

If you have the manifold loose for gasket change. Just use the shop vac.

thanks for the response philip. when you say intake horn, which part exactly is it that your refering to? sorry im not familiar with that term. :)

and as for the thermocouple, where would you suggest putting it. ive heard its best to put it between cylinder 5-6, but i think thats mostly on the newer trucks. ive also heard to just put it on the center of the manifold just before the turbo flange. where yould you suggest i place it?

thanks again.

Install the pryo in the manifold just before the turbo. There is a center wall in the manfold. So do not drill dead center. Most of the time we install in the back half. That is cylinders 4,5,6.

The intake horn is the piece where the air enters the engine. It is a 90 degree cast alumn piece. Just under it on the side of the head is a 1/8" pipe plug.

perfect. thanks that is exactly what i was hoping to hear. and now that you tell me, i no exactly where your talking about and the name makes perfect sense.

preciate the help.

philip, just to clarify,

i noticed that there are two different models to chose from, the 1/4 npt and the 1/8 npt. i asume this is refering to the boost bolt size. if this is corect, than i assume the 1/8 is what i will need? also, is there anykind of electrical wireing ill have to do for lighting in the gauge? does the gauge come with it? where do i wire it too?

thanks

You need the 1/8" pipe fitting for the boost gage line. If your putting it under the intake horn.

You will need to hook up the light in the gage. The tach wiring under the dash has a light wire in it. Its the 20 gage orange wire. This will let the gage light dimm like the other dash lights.

as far as taping out the exhaust manifold... is the thermocouple a 1/8 " aswell, and to i need to drill it out and tap it, or do i just drill it out, and thread in the thermocouple? also, if i do have to tap it, i asume its fine thread?

and the wireing for the light, do i just splice into the wire that runs to the tach harness? im planning on getting a tach at the same time i do the egt/boost gauge, will this effect the tach by doing the light for the other gauge?

thanks, sorry for all the questions

You will need to tap the exhaust manifold for what ever the thermocouple size is. With the brand your getting I don't know what size it uses for the pyro.

When you install the tach just splice into the same wire for the tach light. It won't cause any problems.

oh,i was under the impression that the tach would just plug in to the harness under the dash and thats all i had to do. do i have to wire for the lighting sepratly?

the gauge im lookin to get is the westach dual they sell on genos garage. i dont believe they list the size thermocouple. is it safe to assume that its the same as the boost line?

Most of the tachs do not plug into the Dodge harness plug or at least I haven't heard of any aftermarket ones that do.

The thermocouple could be 1/8" or 1/4". Untill you open the box you won't know.

oh ok. in another thread i had talked to some guys who showed me exactly where the tach harness is, and i was under the impression that it just plugged right in? if it dosent, do i just cut the harness off and hard wire the tach?

philip, i just orderd a isspro 4k rpm tach (R8503) and a wiring kit for the 92 and up rams, (R8912-92). i found out about them by using the search forums feature. so hopefully ill be getting it in the mail pretty soon here and well see if she works :)

im gonna call genos tomaro and ask them the size of the thermocouple. then ill order that aswell. thanks for the help. ill probly have more questions once they get here and i get into installing em. thanks again
