Would there be any harm in just screwing in a plug instead of a boost elbow? I ask because I purchased an elbow to allow up to 40lbs and all I am getting is about 30 and that is only with SMARTY #7 and all adjustable options on default and only at high rpms--above 2900.

Thoughts?

Boost comes from heat. Do you have enough fuel to get to 40?

I've read and discussed this with others who think with stock fuel they want to get to 50 boost.

Boost isn't power it is air. Fuel is needed. They do go together.

More fuel...

With the rail pressure turned to #2 on SMARTY Catcher and the torque set at 4 I get plenty enough fuel to roll coal. I have also monitered the rail pressure under load. I am far from starving for fuel... AirDog takes care of that. Admittedly I am running empty most of the time. Could that have something to do with it.

Boost elbow doesn't seem to do much on mine. If I turn my TST up to 6/6, I can peg my 50psi gage easily. I dont go there anymore because I'm concerned with eng and turbo longevity but I'm surprised at how much boost I can make with an otherwise stock setup. I never go over 3/3 now and normally stay at 2/2.

boost elbow

I bought this boost elbow from Thoroughbred diesel and it is not adjustable. On SMARTY #7 I have to be careful with the go peddle to keep the EGTs below 1400, they will skyrocket if I'm not paying attention. I don't feel like dropping valveseats! Where are adjustable elbows sold? What would be the harm in using a solid plug?

Adjustable boost elbows are available alot of places. Call HTT or Industrial Injection, I got mine 1st one from Edge.

You can just clamp off the wastegate line with a small visegrips or c-clamp to test, but without a functioning wastegate, and all the fuel your throwing at it, your liable to make the shaft of your HE341 unhappy. I don't recommend disabling your wastegate.

I don't recommend using a boost elbow on your engine. I tried using one to allow 30 psi, vs. no elbow with a stock maximum of 24 psi. I found that egt rose up twice as fast when boost was allowed to go over 24 psi vs. when it was held down to 24 psi. In other words, the boosted air was getting hotter but you weren't getting the increase in molecules of air that you were looking for. Your turbocharger was simply beyond its efficiency range.
