The only problem I had putting mine in was I accidentally bent the tube while routing it to the gauge and once it bent it was ruined.

Be careful routing it and other than that you shouldn't have any trouble.

Only other hint is take your time drilling and tapping the intake so you don't have bad threads, clean it out real good after too.

He has a 97 so it should have a port with a plug in it as the TST directions show. No drilling or tapping required.

I've got a 97 but didn't see any port with a plug in it. Wait a minute I did put a 96 intake on my truck because of the EGR valve, I'll have to go look at the old manifold.

The port is (I believe) the same on 96 and 97 engines. I think it is actually in the side of the head not in the manifold. I had one on my 96. Check out the TST link that TPCDrafting provided for a picture.

Edit: I see TST describes it as being "on the side of the intake plenum"

I'm not to worried about the hook up for the boost gauge, the EGT as me a little concerned as the bolts holding the turbo to the manifold are all rusty like everything else. I guess I will just have to use a liberal amount of penetrating oil to get them off. Another thing that has me concerned is that I can't get the battery cables off of the batteries. There is no corrosion that I can see but I can only see on the top. If anyone has any suggestions for getting those off it would be greatly appreciated.

drhoades,

I did my EGT probe without removing the turbo. I was worried about the metal shavings falling down inside at first but after I talked to a couple of guys who did it that way I was convinced that it should be okay.

What I did to make sure that nothing got into the manifold was used a shop vac while drilling, greased the drill bit, and afterwards I put a small magnet down into the manifold to pull out anything that went in.

There were filings that got down in there but after 4 or 5 times with the magnet and a more shop vac I didn't find anymore.

Don't over torque the probe in the manifold cause this can cause it to crack. Take your time with the drill start small and work your way up in size and take your time with the tap. Clean out with a magnet that will fit inside the hole.

Remember to use anti-sieze compound on the threads of the probe where it goes into the manifold.

If you are real worried about the filings remove the turbo.

Good luck.

You can get pullers for removing the batt. cable from the batteries. They are basically a 2-jaw puller with a T- handle on top of a threaded bolt. You want to avoid using pliers and trying to twist them loose. , may break the post off the battery. Not very expensive. Should be able to get them from most auto parts stores.
