I have been running around the country with just a pyrometer and a transmission temp. gauge and decided I needed another gauge.

Had the boost gauge installed today. When I first installed the first two the shop said there wasn't much use in installing a boost gauge.

Since being on this board I found people discussing boost all the time. I know I have problems when my transmission temp goes to 400 or pyro goes to 1,400, but what does the boost gauge do for me and at what reading should I have.

With my camper on the boost would max out at abour 25 or 26. What does that tell me? What if it goes to 30? What should it be at on the streight and level? I didn't get an instruction manual with it.

When the load is on so is the boost, when your just "maintaining" speed on level ground its a couple pounds, now when that Phord comes up to ya and gives you the "dog stare" you go ZOOM-ZOOM and boost goes to max or near max.

400° Trans temp!!!!!!!!!

My gauge doesn't even go that high. I heard their cooked at 270° and up.

Please tell me this was a mistype... .

I am not positive, but I think my gauge goes to about 450. Never have had it go that far though. Stays mostly around 140 or less. Have hit the 240 mark a couple of times pulling the 15,000 lb fiver up a 8% grade in the Nevada Mtns.

Your boost gauge will show you if you develop a boost leak (loose hose) or worse

Several of us have popped the turbo hose on the long pull out of Vantage.

When your used to pulling 30 psi and now can't maintain 20 psi

you better check your hoses.

Popped a hose not long ago going up Snoqualimie Pass. Lost power and black smoke obscured everything behind me. I looked at the hoses and they appeared to be secure. Thinking it might be a bad VA box plus I was going to stop at the dealer in Ellensburg I removed it. The smoke decreased but I didn't have very good power. I had my camper on.

I limped into the dealer at Ellensburg and went to their shop. The mechanic came out with his little computer and said he found some codes that weren't correct and he had reset them and it was OK as far as he could tell.

Drove like that for a few miles and decided I would give the hoses a new going over. Found the turbo boost hose was blown off on the bottom. It appeared to be secure looking from the top. I reconnected it and reinstalled the VA box and went merrily on my way until the Exhaust brake stuck closed. That was when the grief began for that trip.
