I just installed my autometer boost guage with the boost bolt and the guage is stuck on 6psi even when the truck is off. when i drive it the neddle is real bouncy not real smooth what do u guys think the problem is. I used the pink with yellow stripe wire in the big harness if that matters. thanks.

What harness? What circuit is that wire? What is the purpose of the wire? Is the gauge mechanical or electrical?

Sounds to me like an electrical gauge and you've got something incorrectly wired.

Ryan

it is an electric egt guage. I used the diesel manor install instructions and it say to tap the pink with yellow stripewire in the main harness so i tapped it its a 12 guage wire i think and my truck went crazy throttle would stick and run real bad. i hope that i didnt mess my brand new truck up. I pulled the tap and used the adjustable pedal power wire thanks to Richard at browns diesel on Sunday:). Does anyone know what the wire does that i tapped at first im kinda scared. It seems something is still not right i still have my tap attached because i dont want a raw wire. Any help would be much appreciated thanks guys.

Your truck is too tall for an accurate boost reading:-laf:-laf

I have seen the autometer boost gauges stuck right out of the box

Ya it was too tall now its just a 4in in front and stock in back. I sent the boost guage back to genos they replaced it no problem it was stuck when i pulled it out of the box. My problem is now what wire did i tap at first that made my truck crazy cause i still dont think it is right even though i pulled and moved the tap.

If you don't know what wire you're tapping into, never tap into it. It's that simple. There are many (hundreds?) of wiring harnesses on these trucks, and I don't know what you're talking about when you say "main harness" or "big harness".

And if you're using those little plastic "taps" that snap onto wires you're already doing it wrong. Those things are absolutely worthless, and should never be used under any circumstances for any application no matter what. People say "never say never", well I'm saying "NEVER!". ;)

I don't mean to panic you, but if you don't know what you're doing you're better off not doing anything - especially when electricity is involved. You've put a lot of modifications into this truck, so I assume you have excellent mechanical aptitude, but perhaps your electrical skills aren't as good as they could be.

Are we talking about a boost gauge or an EGT gauge? Your first post (and title) say boost gauge, but then in your second post you say it's an EGT gauge. There are subtle but important differences.

I installed a Dipricol boost gauge on my friend's truck recently and it was stuck on 7 lbs. I loosened the nut in the back center of the gauge a tiny bit and the gauge has been working fine for four months so far.

It was the boost guage but I got that replaced I am talkin about where I tapped for the key on power for my egt guage. And rather than using the little t taps what do you recommend. Thanks for all your info.

The bigger 12 guage wire was the one i tapped. You guys think i should pull the tap off if i do what can i do to protect the bare wire.

The correct way to splice a wire is to trim away the insulation where you want the tap to be, solder in your new wire, then cover over with either liquid electrical tape or self-sealing silicone tape (or both!).

If you're looking to protect the bare spot in the wire you're not using, I'd use either liquid electrical tape (available anywhere) or self-sealing silicone tape (harder to come by).

Ryan thank you for the lesson i never was into electrical work but i can build anything. thanks again you wouldnt happen to know what that wire i tapped was i still worriedi might have messed something up.
