i have noticed the last couple times i drove my truck the boost needle does not go past 12-13 lbs. Last week it would hold 20 lbs. I also noticed higher egts - is 800 degrees normal for being empty going up a hill?. Where is the most common place to look for a leak? Certain areas more prone to cause problems?



truck goes in Monday morning for the install of Goerend Bros. triple disk tc. and valve body. I'd love to find the leak before i drop it off Sunday night. Where is best place to find new "boots" if i have a hole worn through?
 
i've had my boots blow off a few times. never found a tears or holes otherwise in them though. high exit temps is definately a symptom. i just reseat them and reclamp them.



checking the boots has become a regular maintenance item for me. i can often hear the leak if the boot is far enough off.



i see you have the fass as well. i've also heard of the 2 bolts that held on the old fuel filter assy is a place to check for a leaky intake manifold gasket, assuming you removed the old filter.



also, if you didn't install your boost guage yourself, check it out. some of the fittings that come with these guages are subpar. i almost always end up at a hardware store building a better mouse trap when it comes to our beloved "upgrades".



leaky boost is not too tough to find. you're probably on the right track already anyway. look real closely though. i've spotted leaks around my boots by just noticing if there seems to be any unusually clean spots near the boot where high velocity air polished something off.

The most common place for a leak is the intercooler boot on the passenger side. Also look very close at the intercooler boots and be sure they are not cut, the fenders tend to wear on the boots and cause holes. Another possible spot would be the manifold gasket or heater grid gaskets, I have seen those blown out and customers have no idea that they were even bad.

thanks for the responses. I did not have a chance to check for leaks this past weekend - my wife threw me a suprise 30th bday party. When the truck gets back later today from getting the Goerend's goodies in it i will be checking for leaks - took the day off work to recooperate from the beers :-laf
 
check the alignment of the elbow from the bottom of the turbo where it joins the boost tube toward the front of the truck, mine was slightly off and kept popping the tube.
