Hey everybody, I know this isse has been covered a lot but I can't find the exact info I need. My dad has a 1997 2500 just like the truck in my sig. A couple weeks ago one of the intercooler hoses blew part way off. I put it back on and retightened the clamp, and that fixed it for a little while. In about a week it started making a whooshing noise just like when the hose came off, but now I can't find the source. I was hoping that somebody could post some pics of a leak detector and how to use it. Thanks

I'm sure you are dealing with the inlet hose at the cooler. That is the only one I have had come off. It can also rupture. Sometimes it is too close to the frame area and rubs. May be time to go with upgraded hoses.

If you are good at using the "search forum"(Which I'm not. ) on this TDR site there is good info. with pictures on how to build (out of 4" pvc pipe) and use a leak detector using compressed air.
I made one, used it and it worked great. It was easy to make and it was not expensive.
Unfortunately I left mine in WI and since I'm in CA I can't even give you any details about it.
I hope this helps,
Ray

I tried searching for those pics but couldn't find anything. I'm no good at the search function either. I was hoping somebody might link me up with those pics; I'm not lazy, just not too computer savvy.

Thanks for the link. I made a similar tester and found a couple small pin holes in the rubber hose on the driver's side. Could such small holes make an audible whoosh? Also does anybody know where to buy a hose like this? I think its about 6" long and a 4" to 3" reduction.

Usually when you hear a whoosh it is the hose(s)/boot(s) that connect to the intercooler. (usually to the supply side to intake manifold) They usually pop off yours mite be getting weak and being stretched a liitle when the boost hits a certain psi.

Hose should able to get at Dodge maybe Cummins, also check the advertisers in the TDR Magazine.

I put 30 psi in the system yesterday and it only dropped about a pound a minute. The little pin holes are in the hose that comes out of the intercooler. I don't think those small holes could be causing the sound. The truck doesn't smoke and doesn't seem to have lost much power; what else could be making the noise?

I drove the truck today, and there was no noise. I don't know what I did to fix it unless a clamp was loose and when I put it back together after the leak test it got tightened. I had the thing apart 3 times already looking for loose clamps and all but must have did something different this time. Anyway thanks for the help.
