I was just wondering if my boost sounds right to you guys. I have a 14 cm waste-gated housing and the pump is turned up 1 1/2 turns. The most I see is 26 pounds of boost. Just the housing took the boost from 14 to about 23, after I turned the pump up I saw another 2-3 pounds of boost. How much boost do you think I could expect with the Lucas injectors, will I need to replace my 30lb Isspro boost guage;) ? One other thing that bugs me, the Isspro boost guage does not match the pyro and tach. Does this bug anyone else?

Banks?

Hey mprtrpr!

I don't know where you got your 14cm2 from, but if it was Banks they set all of their "Big Head" wastegate pressure pods to 26#'s. I have even adjusted the actuator rod on my 14cm2 and have not realized anymore boost. I get 31#'s boost w/ the 12cm2 that I'm also very fond of but the 14 makes for less hyper interstate cruising.

You can get an additional 1 or 2 pounds of boostw/ the pressure line disconnected & plugged, but it's not much. :D

No Banks stuff for me thanks, I was the one that couldn't get my money back from them for a month. I got a genuine Holset housing from High Tech Turbo in Utah. What would you think of changing to a hx35, would it give me any more boost or a performance increase? Would it bolt to my 14 cm housing. What is the difference anyway?

For what it's worth.....

I think your boost numbers are just about right for your mods. I am running around 22psi in cool damp conditions (empty). What is your EGT's. That will help in deciding your fueling settings which contribute to boost numbers. Timing is also a contributor to total boost, response, smoke etc.

Anyway, I don't think your too far off. My brothers truck (92)has the Banks 14cm and thats about what he generates with the same injector/pump settings as me.

Regards, Bob

I'm getting 22- 23 psi unloaded and 26-27 psi loaded with the lucas injectors and the mods in the signature. You may want (have to) turn your pump down with them for EGT reasons. The highest EGT's I get unloaded are around 1000* pre-turbo and 1200* loaded. If you are looking for a HX-35, I'd give Piers a shout. He has that modified one that I would love to try. :D

Hey mprtrpr!

Our First Gen Holset "HIC" turbo assemblies are basically a "HX35" w/o the 'Silencer Ring' fitted and the larger 21cm2 or 18. 5cm2 housing installed from the factory. Yes, your current 14cm2 will fit the HX35 but I agree w/ Matt S opinion that you would not realize any/much performance gain.

Piers new "SuperTurbo" is the best of both worlds & the 14cm2 is a perfect match for it. :D

Maybe when I get my new transmission paid off... ;)

PS: Sorry for using that "BANKS" word in your presences.

I haven't had it loaded yet, really. Going up a 7 percent grade in 4th or 5th I can mash it and get some good acceleration, the egt has never gotten over about 1100 pre-turbo. What I think I would really like to do is get the Lucas injectors and turn my pump back down. I don't want to turn the pump up any more as I don't want to shorten what life is left in my 115,000 mile pump. I would like to get the pump timing set, is there anywhere that I can find instructions on how to do this? What would be a good pump setting, does my altitude( home 6000 feet) make a difference like it does in a gas motor?

I'm about to upgrade housings in the next six months, and these chats of your's really get me in a knot :D Everytime I think that I have "the set-up" in my mind, some one has to start posting about how great their 12cm^2 housing and 300hp injectors run soooo good at about 30+ PSI. Meanwhile, I can't prove to myself on paper or in my brain that I wouldn't have liquid pistons

Any way, now that I'm the town idiot, how hot do you guys run with your 12's and 14's and have you tinkered with your timing to get there. I seldom tow with my pick-up, but don't want it to blow-up when I do.

Happy Bombing! ;)

I've seen egt's as high as 1400 (pre turbo) when I was seeing how hot I could get it with my 12cm housing. This as under full throttle from a dead stop to top end speed (94 mph). Driving 70 down the highway, my egt's stay between 600-700. I have had no problems controling egt's with my foot and see alot of boost. At WOT boost is #36 unloaded and runs about #12 crusing at 70.

My timing is at 1. 35 mm and as far as I know, my pistions are still in a solid state! :D

With my 12cm up in the "hills" coming back from Reno,NV last month racing a friends' pumped up Dart... i pegged my 1600 deg. gauge for about 30 seconds... but I know you all know the 30 second rule, don't you?... . {still in seacrh for MORE FUEL}:p
