Recently installed a boost and EGT gauge on the pillar of a 02 CTD. What are other people out there in diesel world getting as readings? I am wondering if i have the nylon tube pinched or the gauge grounding out somewhere.

I run about 38LBS of boost max on the HX40 and 45lbs max on the HX35 and I defuele at 1200deg pre turbo. I can hit 1200 deg fast if I stand on it. But if I ease my foot into it and let the turbo spool up I can hold my foot to the floor for a wile:D This also depends on what level of fueling I am at . The higher setting the faster I reach 1200 deg. The lower the setting the slower the time to deg pulloff. I also run about 685deg and 2-4lbs boost at 2000rpm's and 75mph. Hope this was helpful. OverFueled

Thanks for the info. I get to about 20 psi. i am guessing because this is bone stock. anybody with bone stock numbers out there?

It would really help if you would tell us how your truck was equipped (i. e. , ETC manual or auto versus ETH 6-speed). My stock ETH/DEE (HO/6-speed) would pull 22 PSIG max boost at 1300 degF max pre-turbo EGT when towing our 5th wheel. After installing the EZ (with boost elbow), BHAF and 4" exhaust, it runs 32 PSIG max boost at 1100 degF max pre-turbo EGT.

If you have an ETC automatic with an HY-35W turbo, your results will differ.

dclassens,

20 PSI on a stock truck is great, my 2001. 5 that is completely stock for the moment and gets to 20 if i really stomp on it and i get to around 1000 deg at the most, mostly cruising i don't get over 15 PSI for boost and depending on how warm it is outside i am at 700 to 900 Deg.

My stock '02 listed below ran at 22 psi before I added the Comp and modded the turbo for higher boost - didn't get a chance to do any real EGT tests before adding the Comp, but currently run 32 psi boost, 1200 EGT in a stiff pull in the Sierras...

with all stock or just the EZ, I could not get over about 19 psi. Then I installed a solid turnbuckle with no spring, and now she'll go up to 30 when I step on it even unloaded. One thing to note, I tried the turnbuckle with a few different stiff springs, and none of them would keep the wastegate closed. So the spring was discarded and it has been this way for about 8k miles with no trouble.

Damon- Where can I get this "turnbuckle"? I'm getting 20PSI max on my truck and would like to get a little more boost. What does the extra boost do to your EGT's?

you can find a turnbuckle at any hardware store for about $2. 00. I got the one I used from Home Depot, and I believe that it is 1/4" thread and 6" when screwed closed. As I remember the turnbuckle needs to open to about 7 1/2" for the hooks to grab the casting and the wastgate arm. You will also need a nut to lock the turnbuckle threads so that it doesn't fall off from the vibration. I will take a pic if I can this evening, otherwise I know that I have seen a few good pics from other members on this site.

As for the EGT's, I seem to run 100-200 degrees cooler when running up my test 7% grade at 80 mph. Used to be at 1200 and now its more like 1000-1100 on that particular test.

Thanks Damon, I took a look at your profile and seen what your talking about, should be an easy project for this weekend!

FYI - If you aren't increasing your fueling somehow with injectors or a box increased boost will give you nothing. In addition, putting a turnbuckle on to increase your boost without a boost module or box of some kind will actually decrease your performance because once you break 20 psi your ecm will defuel to maintain 20 psi and it will set an overboost code in your ecm that can give you warranty troubles.
