I was recently reading through the most recent TDR mag. It said on a stock motor standard out put boost pressure should be about 22-24 PSI and HO 25 to 26. My autometer gauge reads max 22PSI on my HO motor. Now i know it could be an inacurate gauge but what else would cause a low reading? If its actually low am I loosing power? I will see about getting another gauge to compare too. Also i am taking my reading from a boost bolt.

Is it a 60lb boost gauge?

When I had a 35lb boost gauge I was hitting 25-26 stock. When I put in a 60lb boost gauge it read about 22 max.

I read a long technical post somewhere about gauges reading more acurately in the mid range as opposed to close to the max point. Dont remember the actual technical aspects of the post, but it kinda made sense.

I just installed my gauges last weekend, including an Autometer Sportcomp 0-50 (yes that is correct) boost gauge and my max boost is 20 pounds. It just stops at 20 like it's hitting a pin, not a pound more. I have heard that my year also should have around 23 before the wastgate opens and assume that any error is due to either the gauge or the wastegate setting. It doesn't really matter because I am soon to bomb way past that point anyway :)

My 30 psi gauge maxes out at around 22-23 psi WOT empty. The 25-26 psi is only at maximum load WOT, max RPM. I believe if you had the thing loaded to the gills with a heavy trailer and were heading uphill at WOT and maximum RPM you'd get to 25 or 26 psi.

My truck is still stock. It will spike up to this level and and hold for a few seconds, then it will drop to 26-28. I can tell a change in my exhaust sound as well from the waiste gate opening up.

my 04. 0 will read peak of 26psi when at WOT and near the top of the engine rpm range [±3000] on my 35psi gauge. . once you get above 3200 the engine defuels and the boost drops a good bit... once you get to about 3500rpm there is only like 10-12psi boost

My 2001 Auto hit the wall at 20 psi like a clock at 12 O'c;ock, (40 psi Iso Pro Guage), it normal I made a J hook set up. with turntuckle, s hook and springs from Home Depot. Makes 29 psi now, with a boost fooler.

If you are taking your boost reading downstream of the intercooler that may make up for the 3 psi you are missing.

That's what my Westach looks like with the quad box on 100 :D

What I find interesting is that when I first installed the gauge, my truck would spike to 24-25 and settle at 22.

I pulled my box out and ran my truck hard yesterday. My boost now sees 26-27 at when above 2500 or so.

Maybe my truck runs more freely now that it has 21k miles on it? I'm sure the exhaust and intake help it spool, but overall boost shouldn't be affected.

Whatever, the stocker turbo won't be in there for long.

Where has everybody got there boost plumbed to air intake or boost bolt into the manifold and who like theres where they are at and which is the most accurate? I have many in the air intake its always been there and not in the intake I hear the intake is better, dunno enlighten me.

I'm using a boost bolt. Haven't had a problem with it (yet), although I wish I'd put anti-seize on the threads before installing it. If I had it to do over I think I might actually have gone to the trouble of tapping the intake horn instead.

Mine was installed by MDW at Hot Rod Diesels with a boost bolt. Autometer 0-60psi Ultra-Lite gauge has been on for about a year and a half. With current mods I can push sustained 55psi boost and have seen spikes to 60psi. Still holding with no problems.
