boost the 250 or move up

Looking for better towing performance. 2003 quad ,longbed ,5 speed ,3. 73 stock. This is my 2nd cummins and I love the dependability(only 1 injector and 1 xfer pump replaced with 145000 mi. ). I am trying to decide whether to increase the power of the 250 hp engine or look for a newer truck that already has more HP stock. May go to auto trans also, the wife tires quickly from the heavy clutch but likes to drive the truck. My thoughts are that a higher output stock engine would be more reliable/less stressed. We are looking at moving up to about a 10,000 lb camper. Does anyone have firsthand experience with the 250 versus the newer model? thoughts-opinions? Thanks

I had an '03 5sp... I wouldn't hesitate to program that truck for more power. As long as you don't run excessive exhaust temperatures, you're not going to be overstressing the engine. the only difference between the HO engines and your SO are the piston oil squirters.



I would get a nice programmer and enjoy your payment-free truck!
