2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission boots-up or down?

stupid question here... bilstein 5100 rear shock... . boot up or down?

got old shocks off ready to now install rears... anyone know? thanks,mike

Which way will water collect or be trapped in them. I would think that would be you answer.

If I read this right, the boot hangs from the top of the shock, if it was on the bottom you would have a spittoon.

Normally the boots would be on top There are some that put them on the bottom with the shock fliped over, the idea being that if any water or grit gets into the boot that is will collect down and away from the shock/plunger seal. Normal install would be boot up.

While boots up may be right for Bilsteins and many other shocks, remember any shocks with inertial valving (viz. edelbrocks) have a definite up/down - watch the arrow.

boots for front are definately up(as is print on shock)but the rears have the

drain holes for boot down(as is print on shock)no arrows on either. just seems wierd. nothing in the pitiful instructions.
