HI all, sometime ago I made a post about my " Constant pull to the right". I received many suggestions, but pull is still there. I am going to tack it to a specialty alignment shop next.....
On the posted topic, I ordered a Borgeson steering shaft for my truck as the steering wheel has excessive play in it. Borgeson only advertises the shaft for up to 1998. When I called, I asked if the shaft would work on a '01 and was told, we don't know we haven't had anyone ask for one for that new of a truck. I have 28,500 miles on my truck... ... . Anyway, I ordered one to try it. I got it in 2 days and it is one impressive unit! It is much more heavy duty than oem junk... . I went to install the thing ( it only took about 20 minutes) and the knuckle that connects to the steering box shaft has the set screw drilled 90 degrees off where the flat part is on the spline. You need the set screw secured so the shaft doesn't slip off... I called Borgeson and spoke with a lady that said I should just file a flat spot on the steering box shaft... YEAH RIGHT on a hardened shaft??? You can't even get a grinder down there and besides I don't want half the shaft to be ground flat..... I asked her if they could just produce a knuckle that had the set screw location drilled 90 degrees off current... . She replied " We can't do that because that knuckle is universal with other applications and it would cost too much to create a seperate bin for those". I stated that as these 01's aged the demand would equal that of the 98 and priors... She said it doesn't make any difference. . After a couple more minutes , I hung up thinking what a pity, those steering shafts are great pieces of eqiupment that I had no problem paying 200 plus dollars for, but they don't want my business that they would be able to get with one simple change!!
Merry Christmas!!!!
