I just replaced my 91 Dodge (106000 miles) steering shaft with a Borgeson unit. I read all the posts here and the instruction manual but still ran into some difficulty in comprehension. I understood why I trained in electrical instead of mechanical. Some notes to be made aware of. 1. The star bolts on the rag joint do not need a special wrench - just a 3/8 12 point box end. 2. The little plastic thing in the shaft at the power steering unit is not the pin. The pin is what the little plastic thing went through. You need to drive the metal pin out before trying to hammer the old joint off. Once it is off the old slips off without hammering. 3. The Borgeson slip joint cannot be moved when on the truck unless you are the incredible hulk. I had to pound on the collar that goes against the rubber cover with a hammer to make it move in or out. One can move it up and down when it is out and verticle but not when it is in the truck. 4. It took me 4 tries to get the steering wheel in the correct position. When I first started out it was 90 degrees from where it should have been. Other than that a straight forward replacement.

Doesn't it feel good to get all of that slop out of the wheel!
I also found that it was some sort of magic trick I haven't yet learned in order to get the steering wheel straight with the wheels. My steering wheel would lock, but it was upside down when that lock locks. However after many tries I finally got it straight, well that is until I knocked the frontend out of alignment Monday night.
It was dark, about 10 p. m. , and I had some rain drops on that passengers side window that I was looking out of and into the mirror. I was backing around to my garage with my extra backup lights lit, when I hit one of the large, unsplit pieces of wood in my backyard. Well it hit the lugs on the drivers side front wheel, and its in need of alignment. Anyone know of some good shops, I'm a little reluctant to take a 1-ton truck to a auto shop, know what I mean?
