I have two Bosch VE pumps that I do not know how good they are. One I have removed from an engine and it is fairly hard to turn. Is this the way they should be? At the risk of "destructive engineering" is there any info from Bosch or Cummins for the do-it-yourselfer rebuilder? FWIW, these are not off a B engine, but rather an A series 3. 4L Cummins turbo diesel.

Hey Rustnrot!

Welcome to the Club... I see you got the "new" secret password & all!

I'm not a Bosch VE pump expert around here like some, but I don't think the VE's will work if they are actually off of a 3. 9L "A" series.

Can read the part#? If so, the '4 cyl' VE pump should start w/ "VE4" and if it's a '6 cyl' "B" series pump it should start w/ "VE6".

Just what I've read from bouncing around here for the past year & a half... :)

These Bosch VE pumps are off of an A-series 3. 4L TD I intend to put back on same engine. I posted here due to similarity to first gens. Just trying to find a "shop manual" on the Bosch VE pump. I know this info is somewhere but it appears to be closely guarded by Bosch.

I am not a trained injection pump tech by any means, but it is to my understanding that unless you are your best choice for money, reliability, and performance is to bite the bullet and buy a new or reman pump. Any one else have experiance here?

Good luck :D

Hey rustnrot, welcome.

to answer your question about opening up one of those pumps, DON'T!! If you don't have the proper equipment and knowledge and are trained in injector pump repair you will turn an expensive piece of hardware into an ugly paper waight.

I have a manual on these pumps. And I build m/c and atv racing engines and I will not go into one even though I spent many hours at an injector shop learning all about them. If your not sure if you have a good one, take it to a shop and have it checked.

Besides, without a test bench you wouldn't know if it was good or bad anyway.

Sorry if I ruined your day.
