ok guys this is the woman speaking again... I have the 96 and 99 with boss v plows on them. I figured they are costly but will work great. Do not have to chase the snow all over on clean ups. I live in Ohio and snow is not always that bad but this is a warning to all who want the BOSS V-plows,,,,save your money and get the fisher straight blades. On both my units I have messed up the center pins by touching, yes i baby my trucks, spots in the driveways that have that little lip,,,now most plows( not boss) will trip over these with no problem but the BOSS just knockes the heck out of you, even at slow speed , and never trips... I know this is long but trust me GUYS SAVE your money buy something extra for the wife and kids and leave the V-plow for those who have money to throw away... . Oh and one more thought the warrenties do not cover this because they consider it abuse. . lol i can tell when every crack and creves are on all my lots and never did any damage to my fisher plows... Hope you all read this befour you buy...

Thanks Tom, You have confirmed the wisdom of a deciscion I made several months ago.
I have a Fisher HD 8' straight blade going on in the next couple of weeks. Fishers are held in high regard around here in northern upstate NY.

you are very welcome and I hope everything works fine for you. Just wanted to TRY to save some fellow TDR members some money. Oh and Tom's Truck is my business name ... . not to many people want a woman working on their big rigs. . lol

Only thing cooler than a woman owning one of these trucks, is a woman owning two!!
Do you tolerate 40ish slightly paunchy slightly balding men? I dont really like to work,(but I do) I got a nice pickup truck.
Uh oh... here comes my wife. Got to go.

I try to get my wife to drive it. Big shock, from her Mazda 626 to this.
I consider it a pleasure to drive (having done a few years in a class 8) but she says it's a job in itself.
To each his (or her) own... .
BTW I'm really 30ish, but I feel like 50ish, thought I'd split the difference. #ad

I'm plow with a Western 9' Steel Pro Plow. Love it. I've nailed a few curbs and punched a few ice piles harder then I care to remember and it hasn't busted yet; and has absorbed the impact enough to keep the truck from busting too.

Actually, did explode the hydraulic lift and pump once. Snagged the back end of the blade frame backing off a curb. The recoil shattered the hydraulic lift like a grenade was in it. My own dumb fault.

Move to Texas and you won't have to buy one of them snow plows. #ad

Around here Myer and Western seem to be kings. A couple of questions though... .

Anybody try the new Western V-Poly Plow?

Have any of you heard of Pathfinder Plows?
I think they are from around Rhode Island. I had an old one (76') on my last Dodge. This was one heavy tough plow. I like the frame mount the best. It mounted on the front of the frame and extended back beyond the axle and reinforced the crumple zone in the frame. All 1/2" plate construction.

As far as Myer snow plows... I'm not impressed. They are too short. The frame mounts are weak. My friend totaled his Blazer after the frame mount of his Myer plow hit a speed bump. (He caught it at the hitch points. ) All of the stress of the mount was at the front of the frame and twisted it like a pretzel.

I'm might be looking for a plow soon so I'm interested in this topic too.

We have been serving the Grand Rapids, MI metro area for about 36 years. Meyer was the plow of choice until Boss came along. All three of our company owned trucks use 8" Boss straight blades. Our subcontractors (4) use the same plow. We have steered away from all folding plows due to high maintenance costs. (broken hinge welds, return springs, etc. ) We service about 600 accounts, and the Boss systems serve us well. No broken welds to date. We do run push bars on everything to save the frame components of the trucks.
Many of the locals have gone to 16' expandable back blades on the 1 ton duallys to increase efficiency, but the hottest snow removal system by far is a loader with an 18' Daniels hydroturn. The Pro-Tech pushers on loaders are also pretty popular. One loader replaces 3 pickups on a large lot. Use one truck to detail and let the loader do it's thang.

From Checking out other sites and seeing what the prefered plow is . The V-Plow is the plow of choice nothing but rave reviews!!!

The Boss V-plow does have full trip and the others (western and fisher) have a trip edge system. The full trip I hear doen't work when in the v positions the trip edge will, leasoning the strain to the truck.

I am getting a v-plow this week and Boss was going to be my pick, since they have been making them the longest over 10years as to around 4 years like the rest. This talk about being hard on the truck makes me wory(my straight blade has taken hard hits was hopping a v-plow would leson this)

apkole,

What company do you represent as I too plow in the GR area, for Chuck's Landscape MGT. I agree the 18' Daniels is the was to go, we have one in our fleet.

The "old timers" around here claim that it snowed here in 1981, but others claim that is just a rumor to scare off tourists.

The only plow that I would use is the 9' Fischer plow. We even have extensions to mount on the ends of both sides of the plow. I think it brings the total length of the moldboard and cutting edge to be about 10. 5' We have these plows on three Chevy one tons, one Ford one ton and one Dodge one ton. We do a lot of commercial plow accounts and the Fischers can just take more abuse than the Western and others. You also have to remember that these Fischers are a lot harder on your truck too because they don't trip easy. Just my 2 cents.

Around here, Meyers is most prevalent with Western coming in next. My Meyers gets bent up at the A frame and the moldboard could be tougher. I don't abuse it but sometimes you take a hit on a new property. I would get a Western when I get a new truck. They seem stronger, the moldboard is curved more to prevent flying snow, and they are easier to attach. You also have to consider replacement part availability in your area. I'm thinking of getting a plow for my New Holland LS 180. Anybody have any experience plowing with skid loaders?

Western Plows are predominate here in Anchorage. They seem to be built well and we have a good dealer. I've plowed for 25 years and would never go with a V-plow just because of the extra weight on the front of the truck. Prior to my Dodge, I plowed with a '90 F___ and thanks to a 60,000 mile drive train warranty, the manufacturer bought me two new front axles, a new front differential and lots of u-joints! Once I got my Dodge, I quit plowing commercially. Now when it snows, I get the truck out of the garage, put my plow on, plow my 450 foot driveway, take the plow off, put the truck back in the garage, and smile!

well as for the trip on my boss v it has alot of trip when only in straight position. As for when in any angle it is not good, That is now i messed both of mine up and only with hitting some Ice or edges in plow areas with little force. The v plow is nice for when doing parking areas that only have a few spots to push the snow. They are very helpfull for when you get to the middle of an area and have to push the snow straight ahead. I found that it saves alot of time, but with the damage that is caused to the plow is not worth it. Boss should be able to desine something that would with hold the problems of the damage this causes to the center pins . I have not, knock on wood, so far had any damage to my trucks and I have hit a few areas hard enought to make me bounce to the roof, but causes alot of damage to the pins in my plows...
