So... . I can just see that 15mm bugger up in there, but can't get anything on it to turn it (off). I'm guessing a 15mm swivel socket may to do it. Can anyone tell me what hardware it takes to get this bolt out?

Thanks,

Larry

If your trying to seperate the power steering pump from the vacum pump on the truck don't waste your time. Its much easier and faster to remove it in one piece. Its easier than it looks. :D

Yep... trying to get it off in one piece. I've got my kids bringing me a 15mm flex socket from town... it's the only way I can see to get something on that bottom bolt that will be able to turn. Appendages seem to have it blocked in in all directions...

The 15mm flex socket did the trick. The new problem is trying to separate the PS pump from the vacuum pumps, and the big gear. I'm trying to replace the leaky O ring seal that separates the PS pump from the rest of the unit. I have a factory service manual (diesel supplement), but very, very sadly, the entire chapter on the vacuum pump is missing (another great e-bay find). It appears that the big drive gear is pressed onto the PS pump shaft. The manual calls for special tools to remove and replace it. I thought this would be pretty straight-forward, but it's looking like a bigger challenge. Anything I'm missing here (besides a complete service manual)?

I butchered a cheapy open end wrench and made it work but for the life of me I cannot remember what I did or how I used it  There it sits all 2" of it, wishing for a purpose in life...

5 sips of strong black coffee, then I caught Leper's drift... laughed so hard I almost spilled it. Then back to comtemplating the oil-slobbering lump of tired metal sitting on my workbench...

LSackett- Are you working on a nonIC or intercooled engine? The pumps are different. If intercooled, you dont need to remove the gear to fix the seal. Just remove the power steering pump from the vacuum pump and do what you need to do. If it is an earlier engine, I dont remember much from it.
