Does any one have any tricks on how to start the bottom nut ?

Im doing a pump install and have a royal pain to get it installed .

If theyd have diffrent studs to were the nut sits on the stud so you have some aid it be nice but nope . Any one got any flawless ideas ?

I got a wrench i made to install and remove it but to start the bottom nut is anouther story

. . hummm I have R&R'ed many pumps and no real real trick. I do make 100% sure that the threads on the studs and nuts are well oiled/free of any debris and they turn on-off easily with the fingers. This saves time as you can literally thread the nuts on all the way easily w/o having to turn a wrench.

The snap-on wrench is a cool tool (SP144) and works really well, after I have that bottom nut tight w/fingers.

Did you have the other to threaded on first as well ?

I got that very back top one with a 1/4" long extention and 13MM socket

Bottom nut install on VE

I had my neighbor come over his wrist is half the size of mine mine are bigger than most peoples ankles .

Any how i have anouther issue . What timming mark do i use on the injector

pump gear ? I wasnt able to get it locked into TDC until after i pulled the old pump .

Im working on a 93 the pump is a diffrent pump than stock.

Its turned up with spring and fuel pin mod .

all other timing marks are per the book the pump is locked timed,

but according to my cummins book a 1990 book it dont jive with the book

and my chiltons just as well be toilet paper .

it is pointed a letter " D" is this correct for a 1993 or this not a big issue ?

The pump drive gear letter "E" is in alignment with the cam gear "O" (Not the "00") and the injction pump will only go on one way as it is keyed to the drive gear hub.

yea, locked time. That is a method for folks who don't really know what they are doing. Sorta a safe guard if you will. Like a guy will pull only one spark plug wire from a V8 at a time to replace them all because he doesn't know the firing order and proper location of the cylinders. It works but it isn't necessary.

It is best to R&R a pump with the pumps key at the top so as you won't dislodge it and drop it into the gear case. But you can use TDC #1 if you like. Turn the pump drive shaft as needed.

I have all the marks what the book says it should be crank key pointing up

and the small " O" , or "e" with the " o o" the pump is alinged with D that is locked acording to the pump out fit i should be good to go but im going to pull

# 1 valve cover and confirm im at TDC
