Competition Sullivan indiana Truck pull?

On one of Piers towing twin set-ups. Could a B-2 turbo be put in place of the HT3B without modification to the plumbing or are they a completely different animal.

Your options get very limited ( as far as the upper turbo) as the bottom turbo is where you get the real boost from. The upper turbo at higher boost levels becomes the handicap as the exhaust housing is usually small (which results in a higher airtemp) to get the turbo spinning fast and starting the bottom one. The upper turbo is usually wastegated with pretty low boost so as to keep the air temps in a manageable area.

Ron, if you can improve on the PDR setup good luck, even mine is an exact duplicate of them except for the bottom turbo and I have yet to beat Jason Burton's record (758 on fuel only) with them.

The B2 would not be a good twin turbo set-up for a towing application. The exhaust housing is too big to keep boost up at highway rpm's

John,

I'm gonna disagree. I've run the 40/3B and 40/B2 and they both spool at almost the same rpm's. If you stick a 35 on top of a B2 it would make a fine towing setup. I'd personally use a external wastegate though.

Call Pias at bell turbo he will set you up with what you need especially if you are building it yourself. His shop is on the north end of stockton off of 99 I think the road is Cherokee its been a while since I have seen him long way from oklahoma

his shop [Bell Turbo] is on TeePee off Cherokee

also Ron knows Pius as he just sold his new USB he got from hm... Ron is dialing in his 24v P pumped first gen.

On my truck the usb was ok empty but ran hot. With a small trailer empty the egt went through the roof. My stock 35 at the same cam plate position ran 200deg cooler. I don't know why. But it did. These kinds of differences between trucks are what makes me nervous about the twins. But if they are best for egt reduction then I will run them. If I have to turn them down to where I am only running 400 hp then that is the way I will run them. This 24 valve p-pump thing was a mistake but it is what I have and I will make it run the best I can.

You are right Ron all trucks don't seem to act the same for some reason, it must be small differences in the way each trucks fueling is set up. My USB ran 40 psi at 1300 degrees pulling large grades but I could peg the guage WOT empty. I mostly worry about how my trucks tows because that is what I use it for.

Hey Nathan,

Yes I agree that it would spool up great but running down the road at highway speeds it wouldn't be at as much boost as if it had a smaller exhaust housing. For towing you want to run as much boost as you can at crusing rpm.

Just out of curiosity, why do you say that?? Is it that you are having trouble with it, or that the bang for the buck just isn't there. I ask because i have been thinking of converting my 24v to a ppump. thanks PHil

Sorry sutt, i just happen to have a couple of P-pumps sittin in the garage, they need a home. Dont worry, it'll be a while if at all, i have a whole bunch of junk to do before something that nuts.
