Newbie question-
I just picked up a 05 reg cab with 17000 miles and somewhere about 1-1/2 years on the warranty. I wanted something a little smaller (and lighter) than the crew cab and I had to drive 6 hours to find one in LA, seems everybody wants a QC!
It’s actually pretty fast (seems to me) but I wanted to do some performance enhancing things that are easily removable in case I run into problems (I hope not, as I’m planning to only do things that a large # of people here think are ‘good’ (for performance and longevity) I think Edge offers a box with a GPS, which sounds good, but everybody seems to like the TST and Smarty combo or the MP-8. By the way, I know this is a stack, but what exactly constitutes a ‘stack’? Is it two pieces of hardware, or a piece of hardware and some software?
Of course I’ll get gauges right away (or are the gauges on the stack combinations that have various LCD screens, palm pilots, etc. good enough?) and I know I can’t expect my transmission to last very long with more than 50 hp or so, so I’ll drive easily or be prepared to replace it.
I’d like to upgrade the exhaust right away, but it seems like that couldn’t be easily replaced with the stock system if, say, my motor blows up (doubt that will happen unless something is already wrong with the engine (it runs great now, but there is no telling what the previous owner did in his 17000 miles) By the way, the truck cost $22,000 before tax etc. it’s a 05 reg cab, automatic, 2 WD, doesn’t have a lot of options and I got it from a dealer. It seems to me that I got a good deal, I hope. It looks like new.
I’ve heard through the boards of the dealers voiding the warranty for a lot of reasons, they are looking for reasons I know, anybody got any advice on what I can do and not get ‘voided’ (I can’t do a cat back exhaust system, or can I?)
I wanted to get a FASS, and maybe a better fuel pump (lift pump?) I’ve heard different warranty considerations even about an additional fuel filter like a FASS. I know they void you for bad fuel.
Thanks in advance for any advice (any advice is welcome)
