Friends,

Finally bought another "Cummings" equipped truck; a super C motorhome. I say that common joke as its a typo on website and one of the videos had egghead saying it and mistaking 22.5 tires for 19.5s. Typical Dilbert.

DW and I decided our camping style was too hard on us setting up and breaking camp sometimes every day mostly every two or three days with out Mobile Suites. Dont get me wrong, if you're full timing and staying a week or more on the same location or snow birding, you can't beat DRV products.

Been watching this 2020 Nexus for a couple months, saw it reduced, then went by and talked them down another $10K and a 4year extended warranty. Only 3500 miles and very loaded: All the factory options solar panels, full motion satellite, full cameras, Blue Ox towing system, mud flap, 8KW Onan Gen, theater seating, outside entertainment system, etc. We got this for a full $25K less than highly discounted 2021 that didnt have all the dealer added options. Lie meter showed it gets 9MPG. Has 10KLb tow rating. Previous owner traded their 5th wheel for it, put 3500 miles on it, which would be about half of on of our trips, and traded it in for a 5th wheel again. They took a bath twice, so their loss our gain.

We've been really wanting to get something that would allow us to take our Jeep Wrangler with us as we visit National and State Parks around the country. Now we're set. We look to pick it up next week.

What's really nice is with the tilt front, oil changes, fuel filter changes easy peasie. Only option gonna add is folding grill/brush guard for all the deer who want to ruin your day.

DW asked me if I'm going to trade 5500 for a Ram 2500 or SRW Ram 3500 and answer is no. Last trip, turned tuner up to 90HP, and I LIKED it. Still got a long way on current rubber, but next change will be 285s, 35" tires. What can I say, its. bbbbbbad to the bbbbone!.

Have to say changing RVs is like moving, we keep our RVs loaded all the time... we have all clothes, non-perisables etc in the RV all the time. We do our laundry in it, and keep her fully stocked ready for the next trip.

It was a little sad unloading the MS, it is a flagship of luxury and space, and served us well with estimated 50K miles and lots of trips of service.

Anyhoo, looking forward to more fun ahead.

Cheers, Ron

If that new RV has the 300hp 6.7 Cummins you are gonna be sad, :D

Nice rig, and it's got a Cummings too!

You liked the tilt cab, wonder what that would do in the full size PU market if that was the new cab design.

It does, but it has great TQ on the bottom end and easily runs 65 MPH, which is my preferred speed. I'm seeing aftermarket tuners and the Allison 2500MH is rated 340HP/700TQ max. so might even see if Cummins will do a "legal" upgrade to it.

I've driven the 6.7 with 360HP/800TQ and Allison 3000MH, was good but price point and conservative driving style helped me decide. Most mountains have slow lane, which I'm happy with. And having towed 28K GCW with a 2nd gen 3500, already been there and done that. The mighty Cummins is kinda like "the little engine that could." We took an hour test drive and the Cummins/Allison Combo seems pretty good. Most important test for me is good close ratio for accelerating for pulling into traffic and getting on Interstate was great. Git'r going, set cruise on 65, and enjoy the trip.;):D

I recall bringing that 300HP/660TQ to ZB59 when he had one and he commented to the affect it went everywhere he wanted to go. Interesting story, there's a 45' 2007 Volvo with 465HP/2000TQ(?) for $145K with right down the road, but it's a monster, so bigger/faster isn't important... 33ft is perfect.

Awesome Rig Ron!! I love the Super Cs. I was eyeing a Seneca for while back then bought the new 3500 as I am still working and still need a real truck. Enjoy!!! I agree we keep our 5er loaded and ready san groceries so it takes days to swap.. last time my shop looked like a house imploded on the service bay floor until we brought the new one home.

Frineds,

I did trade the MS in, got a great price for it and on the Super C. They might not even advertise it as they think they already have a buyer. They were so impressed with it today, that when I asked if they minded installing the Splendide in it for free, they said sure. Orrdered a drain pan for it and taking it and the washer over on Friday. Could have taken the separate washer/dryer out of the DRV, but explaineed to the wife since downsizing better to have the Splendide XC in it. She did like washing and drying at the same time, but she agreed space better than the two separates. Installing the Splendide might add a couple days for delivery, but can't beat free.

Final Pic on the way for turn in.

GREAT NEWS: Stopped by Cummins and they said they're happy to update the ECM to increase power for just the labor rate. I'm happy with 340HP/700TQ, but EXTATIC if it'll let them do 360HP/800TQ, which is max Cummins configures the 6.7L aside from the Ram truck application. I'll bring a dozen breakfast tacos too... everyone loves BTs!;):D It's not uncommon for a transmission manufacturer to calculate 10 to 20% more capacity than advertized, but right foot control is good practice to keep everything together.

And, 5500 is now my other toy, so will be driving it more. Gonna remove the 5er hitch and put her in the corner. That was no cost extra when I bought my 09 4500. Strong and reliable.

Old 12+ YO girl Lab Sheba was feeling poorly this morning 0300, so I stayed up with her... she's feeling better now. I took her and the little one (Cleo) 1.5YO 80Lber ride with me to drop off 5er, and go by Cummins. I think we need a nap. Got to finish LRE wood and DW and I are going to go through ALL the stuff we unloaded yesterday form the DRV, first decide if it goes in new RV, then if not, in the house, in the trash, or in the yard sale pile.

Yap atcha 'all later.

Cheers, Ron

Freinds,

One more thang, there is a stainless steel folding grill/brush guard made for this truck that will be in it's future. Deer down here are small, but still leave you walking if they go into the radiator/intercooler.

Cheers, Ron

Ron Nice looking rig. If I ever give up my 5er that is what we would go, for a Super "C". I have been in a few and for the most part I could live in one. Enjoy.
Now you need the snap pads on the hydraulics self level rams if not already installed.

Thanks on the compliment. Agreed on the Snap Pads... had them on the DRV... I left them on but they are a great upgrade.

Nice rig Ron. You better be careful, having Cummins do an uprate will definitely void your Cummings warranty. To bad there wasnt someone that could call you and offer an extended warranty....

I had a wraith last year before we traded it. Great coach. Do you have an exhaust brake in this one. My wraith did not come with one, but I knew it was there. I had International add the switch and software to turn it on. Not expensive and I like it in the rockies. I never thought about turning up the engine. ENJOY!!!

Thanks, I was looking for it, but didnt see it. I'll add to the list of things to do when I take out to Cummins.

EDIT: Just checking Cummins website: The oil capacity is 17.6 to 20.8 quarts... interesting. Of course after I bring her home, gotta buy air filters, and maybe fuel filters. Hope it takes same oil filters as the Ram version.

Cheers, Ron[/QUOTE] Great find and Cummins power to boot hope you wife have many happy trails tin the Motor Home on King size wheels!:):D

@zb39,

Where did International mount the EB switch? Was it marked or just a rocker or pushbutton switch? Just curious.

Thanks, Ron

Nice! What are the specs on the chassis, is that an IH?

That will be great that Cummins will turn it up some. When you add about 10k with Jeep/trailer and living supply's you will need it. Can't have a 1965 VW Beetle passing you:) 300hp/660tq is 20 year old power and no activated exhaust brake...what is Nexus thinking?

Does it have air ride and brakes, or hydraulic? I assume it has the cp4:eek::D

Honestly, I don't think power has age, technology does, and this unit has similar technology as our trucks. I think having driven 235HP/460TQ(?) pulling heavy RV has given me that power perspective. It has hydraulic brakes, but so does my 5500 operating 34KLbs with former MS. No air suspension, which the test drive on rough roads showed fine results. My 5500 came with 325HP/750TQ which worked fine. although I did turn it up. My previous 4500 had 305HP/610TQ, which I also pulled heavy RVs, although I did eventually turn up the power. I already checked and there are aftermarket power performance upgrades for this motor, but I'm confident Cummins can get 340/700 out of it, which is a common Cummins 6.7L configuration to see with many motorhomes with the 2500 Allison sold today.

Dont know if it has a CP4, but not worried about it. Not sure Cummins went the route that they did with Ram filters. It does have a nano filter as checked Cummins website and will buy filters when I have EB and power done. I'm not worried if it does have the CP4

I imagine the original owners took a bath on it due to their experience of operating with lower power...not everyone is happy to chug up grades. I see folks all the time running 75 and 80 MPH with bus conversions and higher end super Cs and that's fine for them. Believe me I looked at the Volvo I referenced above for several days as it's the mother of all super Cs, but decided didn't want all that massive size.

A really good friend of mine has a 300HP Cat MH and does fine, another member is rebuilding a motorhome right here on the TDR with 5.9L Cummins, likely 275HP. So, I took all this into account when deciding on this unit.

It's all good, we're going to enjoy it because we fully assessed it and have managed our expectations.

Still happy to hear comments about it and have the discussion, which is why I posted.

Cheers, Ron
